  1. my ex bought me a bar 48 we split up and I will not reach out to her to ask her for a receipt now the thing had no lights I sold it to the repair shop for $25 because they said there is no repair and they wanted it for parts but now I'm regretting it thinking there might have been a way to have it repaired does anyone have advice for the next time something like that happens and how to find a good repair shop also what is everyone second go to brand I might try B&W for my theater
  2. Hello. I’m looking for the power supply for the bar 48. I went on the Amazon link and the closest unit I see is the 24v4amp/12v1amp. Will this work?
  3. Yes, that is one of the main issues. I must disagree with you here. I had multiple issues with my two BAR 48s that firmware updates were supposed to address but didn't. I had a Cinema 600 that dropped dead after a few months. If you read through the many threads discussing the BAR series and the Cinema series soundbars you can see how many owners exchanged their soundbars for another one having the same firmware version only to encounter a whole new set of issues. If you need more proof, read through the Bar 48 No-Power Repair Thread thread. There definitely are major reliability issues with many Klipsch soundbars. 😒
  4. Hi everyone, I'm new to this community and recently found this thread on fixing the Bar 48. I'm a speaker repair hobbyist and recently a customer brought to me his Bar 48, complaining of no power. As SixerFixer has already written, the problem is related to the 5V output of the smps. Basically the smps could not sustain 5V when the sound processor chip is drawing current to power up the system, resulting in the voltage dipping to 2.7V. Thereafter the chip may sort of hangs itself and releases the drawing current, thereafter the voltage will rise back towards 5V. I've pin point the failure to be caused by C05 and C06, both being 220uF 16V electrolytic capacitors. There may not be any visible damage. For my case, 1 capacitor measured 169uF with ESR 0.4ohm, the other 30uF with ESR 4.5ohm. The latter part is closest to D02 (rectifying diode for this circuit). My initial fix was to replace the 2 capacitors with similar size and specifications type. The speaker did work properly however both capacitors were running very hot and it's only a matter of time before they will fail again. Without going much into technical discussion, basically the board requires very low ESR type capacitors to sustain a longer life span. My final fix is to replace C05 with 2x 100uF 50V (United Chemi-con KY series) capacitors soldered in parallel. This capacitor measures with ESR of about 0.17ohm. By connecting them in parallel, I effectively half the ESR but double the capacitance to 200uF (short of 20uF but still good enough). You may try purchasing a low ESR type capacitor of the same 220uF 16V, but I find it nearly impossible to have the right size that fits. I've also taken the opportunity to remove some of the silicon rubber glue surrounding D02 in order to give better cooling to that area. The extra capacitor is inserted onto C44A. The leads needed to be bent slightly to fit in the space. I've also deliberately mounted it in 'reverse polarity' with the aim of using the copper traces beneath for bridging. Below shows how the soldering was done. The yellow 'L' is kapton tape, to ensure no accidental bridging between those traces. The end result is that all the capacitors running cool to touch. I'll presume with cooler temperatures, this smps should last much longer than intended. Hope this info is useful for anyone out there. Cheers!
  5. Hi. I have the Bar 48 system with Reference surrounds added. The Switch outputs full PCM 5.1 surround only so my soundbar can't process it. Nintendo doesn't use any kind of Dolby encoders. Is it possible to get another Klipsch soundbar with an HDMI in and eARC that pairs with my sub and surrounds? I've read that going directly from the Switch to HDMI-in works, with eARC going to the TV. I really don't want to get a whole new home theater setup just so I can enjoy surround on the Nintendo. And I would also like to continue using the sub and surrounds... Any advice appreciated greatly. This is frustrating.
  6. Bar 48 effort here... It seems my order has arrived and I confirmed it is 24V 4A and 5V 1A. Be Careful... the amazon link works but you have to choose the right configuration... Amazon currently out of the 24V 4A and 5V 1A..... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WKH5RZV/ref=srdp?keywords=noyito+ac+to+dc+power+supply+24v+5v&srpt=POWER_CONVERTER&sres=B07WKH5RZV%2CB07T9PJ9D7%2CB07BDL176B%2CB07JV7CN1T%2CB07C1JHBB3%2CB07CNTHTSP%2CB07FNFJTHH%2CB0816B34FR%2CB07CML2GXN%2CB081RGVJGD%2CB06XJVYDDW%2CB07BLTTX1W%2CB07C8R5PJD%2CB07HWP4TSX%2CB07G6J3PK1%2CB07BLQKW37&qsid=135-3283479-4546535 So I got it all unscrewed and getting started... Following this- GND is your ground, VDD is your +5V voltage, and STB is your standby line (as labelled from the original power supply removed from the Bar48). Because the STB line also happens to be a +5V channel, you can simply twist the VDD and STB wires together and plug them into the +5V out line of the power supply, and the soundbar should work. Make sure you verify which side of the new power supply is 5V and which side is 24V! Very important to not plug the VDD and STB wires into the +24V output by accident or you will likely fry your Bar48's mainboard. Any other tips before I let the smoke out?? Mounting options? I will likely glue or drill and bolt. Anything to test or check other then it works?? Cheers for all the contributions. I almost tossed this in the bin.
  7. I have both the Cinema 600 and Bar 48 sound bars with the Surround 3 speakers pair to each. With the Bar 48 I get an awful screeching noise periodically out of the blue, exclusively out of the right side speaker. As it pertains to the Cinema 600 combo, endless static out of the right speaker. I’ve had Klipsch products for over a decade, even “upgrading” my R-10B and both R-20B’s with the new products….apparently not my best decisions. At least my ProMedia 2.1 set still works.
  8. Surround 3 speakers for klispch Bar 48. I will sell mine for 140.00. As you know they are worth 325.00 Canadian. I live in canada so there will be shipping charges, if I get your location can figure that out. They are in perfect condition, work with the Bar 48 sound bar.
  9. It is unfortunate in some ways that there isn't a "Cinema soundbar thread". I certainly understand why there are separate threads for the 1200, 800, and 600, each being a different product, but when it comes to the issues we all encounter there is much more in common across the whole Cinema line. As you may appreciate, because the Cinema 800 and Cinema 600 have been available longer than the Cinema 1200 more customers have had an opportunity to identify issues with those products. You may be surprised to learn that many of the Cinema 1200 issues have plagued the other models too. Have a look at some of the other threads in this forum: Cinema 1200 Cinema 800 Cinema 600 I have responded to posts in most of the threads involving the Cinema soundbars and, while numerous issues have been identified, there are common issues impacting all models related to: Firmware updates Power (soundbar just dies!) Random noises (affecting the soundbar, or subwoofer, or surround speakers) Dialog (indistinct, difficult to understand) HDMI-ARC connectivity All sound stops (either for a couple of seconds or permanently until power is removed from the soundbar) Video and sound synchronization. ... and more. In my opinion, these are just symptoms of a few larger issues impacting not only the Cinema soundbars but the previous BAR series too. Component reliability Design defects (or oversights) Software defects impacting the firmware. While these issues can be dealt with during the product development phase, they are much more difficult to rectify once a product is in distribution. The typical resolution for a component failure is a replacement unit but if there is an issue with the general reliability of the component the replacement may encounter the same issue. Worse yet, if other components are also subject to reliability issues, the replacement can have more issues than the soundbar that was returned. This is exactly what happened to me when I received a warranty replacement for my BAR 48! It would appear that the Cinema series has not achieved a significant improvement in component reliability. Design defects can be much more difficult to deal with, for example, a soundbar with a power supply incapable of providing the needed power. These issues are usually rectified when the product design is revised which, from what I have observed, is when Klipsch announces a new line of soundbars. If we expect to see improvements in future soundbars it is important that we provide Klipsch Product Support with the appropriate feedback. Firmware issues are likely to impact all devices so, if your issue is related to a firmware defect, a warranty replacement will not help. Unfortunately, as customers, we are unable to determine what issues are specifically firmware related. The good news is that some issues may be resolved by installing a firmware update. So far, I have not been very impressed with Klipsch firmware updates! Whatever issues you may be experiencing, I encourage you to register your product and open a case with Klipsch Product Support. Whether or not they are able to resolve your particular issue, this is the only way to reduce the likelihood that new products will encounter the same issues found in current models. I hope this overview will help you decide how to best deal with your current issues.
  10. After having had four Klipsch soundbars (three different models) and helping out in these forums for the past two years this is what I can conclude: Most of the issues I have observed or that have been discussed in these forums appear to be due to poor quality control and/or poor design. As such, many of the same models currently stocked by retailers may experience the same or similar issues. Klipsch Product Support has recommended that any customer experiencing issues with their soundbar first try to return it to the retailer from whom it was purchased. If it is beyond the time period when the retailer will accept returns, and it is still within the warranty period, the customer can request a warranty replacement from Klipsch but that can take many weeks. Based on my own experience and that of others posting in these forums, there is no guarantee that the issues one is experiencing will actually be resolved with the replacement. In some cases the replacement may actually exhibit additional issues. Klipsch won't comment on the issues that have been reported and I have been unable even to get an acknowledgement let alone a progress report on the issues reported in the case I have opened but I still believe it is important for all of us to provide as many details as possible to Klipsch about the issues we encounter. Almost all the issues I encountered with my BAR 48 and reported to Klipsch appear to have been addressed in the Cinema 600 and Cinema 800. 🙂 I'm happy to see that each new soundbar generation has fewer issues and more features than the previous one but I'm disappointed that owners of a current model may not find a replacement completely free of issues.
  11. I have a 2 year old Bar 48 sound bar. The other day it just stopped working, we haven't changed anything with our home setup. It's connected to the TV via optical cable. When we power on the soundbar the status lights will come on initially, then starts flickering and goes out, sound never comes on, it seems the power is still on as we can adjust the volume and when powering off then on again it keeps the same power level, but again no sound comes through The subwoofer light starts flashing blue like it's waiting for a signal from the soundbar but nothing happens. I did try to swap out the optical cable but that didn't fix it, so it seems it's not that and the bar itself has an issue. Anyone experience anything like this before? I've submitted a support ticket (#284599) about a week ago but haven't heard back yet. Also tried calling in the support number but can't seem to get through and get put on hold indefinitely before I have to give up and carry on with my day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  12. Hi Having issues with the bluetooth sub from the Bar 48. Sub stopped working and when I attempt to connect the sub to the sound bar the pairing light does not light up at all. Have tried factory reset of the sound bar no difference and have tried unplugging the sub once again no difference. I have searched trouble shooting the the BAR 48 and have found multiple posts about the power supplies failing, I find this to be more than disappointing seeing the BAR 48 I purchased is less that 2 years old and out of warranty. Seems there is nothing I can do but buy something else to replace it. Guess I should have done my research before buying Klipsch. Live and learn.
  13. @Christian Bonnet Two years ago I purchased a BAR 48 and Surround 3 speakers that had just recently become available. Almost immediately I encountered issues. Not knowing where to turn I posted my concerns in this forum and found other customers having similar issues. I found the Klipsch support web pages but it contained very little information about any soundbars so I opened a case with Klipsch Product support. Over the course of a year I documented about a dozen issues and shared my experiences with other community members. About a year after my original purchase I was offered a warranty replacement which had more issues than my original one. Other customers had a similar experience. In January of this year the Cinema 600 became available and I was offered one to replace the defective BAR 48 warranty replacement. Of course, I accepted. The Cinema 600 was a big improvement. All the issues I had with the BAR 48 appeared to have been resolved but there were still a couple of show stoppers. The BAR 48 advertised support for Dolby Digital Plus but I never did get it working. The Cinema 600 was supposed to resolve that issue but didn't. Later I was told it didn't provide support for DD+. 😒 About once a week it would lose its connection with my TV (HDMI-ARC). I could only restore the connection by removing the power and reconnecting it. This behaviour continued for about eight months. In September, v33 of the firmware was released and I installed it September 3rd. A couple of weeks later, the soundbar would no longer power on at all. It was bricked! Perhaps that is why firmware v33 is no longer available. I don't know. On November 1 my Cinema 800 arrived and, yes, there are issues. I have added my comments to this thread: Do I have the bitter honor of having the first dead Cinema 800? It begins... I use my soundbar primarily when watching loud movies. I haven't listened closely in a quiet setting so I haven't noticed your issue. Since Klipsch provides little information about what issues a firmware update is supposed to resolve, you'll have to contact Klipsch Product Support and ask if v33 might resolve your issue and when it might again be made available. If you learn anything, please share with the community.
  14. Hi I am a newbie and setting up my 1st ever Home Theater and Surround System. I am looking for some advice on what receiver / floor standing speakers / In ceiling /Center and Sub woofer to pick ? I have short listed these: 1. Center Channel and SW - BAR 48 SOUND BAR AND WIRELESS SUBWOOFER 2. R820F Floor Standing Speakers. 3. Klipsch CDT-5800-C II In-Ceiling Speaker - White 4. Denon AVR-X2600H 7.2 Channel 4K UHD AV Receiver, Supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X & DTS Virtual:X, Amazon Alexa Compatible - Black or Denon AVR-X2700H 7.2-Channel 8K Ultra HD AV Receiver with 3D Audio and HEOS Built-In - Model: AVRX2700H
  15. I was given a Cinema 600 to replace a Bar 48 that I had nothing but problems with. Set up the 600 and I'm having exactly the same problem you're having . One Surround 3 speaker or no speaker would pair. They alternate which side too. LOL. Tried upgrading soundbar firmware, it locked up and now neither the bar or the subwoofer will turn on. Between the 48 and this one I've been at it a couple months. I have a set of corner horns that are over 30 years old. I have their 7.1 entertainment center system. All great, worth every penny. I'm so frustrated with this wireless stuff. It's good thing there's no phone support on Saturdays.
  16. Hey SixerFixer, just bought a broken bar 48 as a little project. Thank you for posting this, I figured my power supply was working fine until I saw your thread and tested it under load. I got 2.3V. Don’t bother buying a new power supply or trying to fix it, simply use a usb phone charger. I had plenty sitting around and the first one I picked up was 5v & 1A -perfect. Just solder 5v and gnd but also use the “STB” pin from the power supply, otherwise you won’t get audio. I have mine working now and was an incredibly simple & cheap fix. Cheers for your help and best of luck with yours. Harry
  17. Can only attach up to 2MB of stuff per post; here's the reading I'm getting from the 5V rail when the Bar 48 PCB is connected, to compare with what the power supply spec sheet lists for the PSU:
  18. New to the forums, figured now would be a good opportunity to say hi! I’m a long-time fan of Klipsch products, having started with a set of fantastic-sounding Promedia 2.1’s I bought about 15 years ago. That system has had its quirks, but I’m quite happy about just how repairable they’ve been. I was in the market to improve the sound quality from my entertainment unit, but given the size of my place and the fact I have a toddler running around, having a dedicated home theatre system wasn’t an option. To address this, I picked up a Bar 48 about a year and 8 months ago as I’m familiar with the quality of Klipsch products and knew it would produce quality sound. And produce quality sound it did… until it died. With the sound bar being 8 months out of warranty, I figured I could get it repaired. Turns out that’s not the case. Per the Klipsch support centre here in Canada, these sound bars aren’t deemed repairable. No parts available, no service manual, no schematics. Nothing. Basically, if it stops working there is literally nothing that the repair centre can do to fix it, and they advise you just buy a new one. Furthermore, the service centre told me that there’s a copious amount of glue used to hold everything together, so even if you feel inspired to take it upon your self to attempt a DIY repair, nothing will be accessible and you will cause more damage trying to fix it. Instead what I was offered was a possible trade-in credit on a new unit. I was told that I could send it in at my expense, and they would offer me a Cinema 600 for $699. To put that into perspective, retail pricing for the Cinema 600 when it goes on sale is $699, so they were offering me literally nothing for the sound bar I paid $700 for less than two years prior. Basically, I was told to pound sand. Again, I can’t stress enough that I’ve been a fan of Klipsch products, but the fact that the company made a failure-prone product unrepairable and is unwilling to try and help me out struck a chord with me. I’ve seen from multiple sources that Bar 48s not powering on is an extremely common failure mode, so hopefully this thread can help some people out by adding a ray of hope to their expensive sound bar that Klipsch says can't be fixed. So for starters, the Bar 48 is totally repairable. By removing the screws around the periphery of the back panel, the main PCB, power supply, and associated wires all slide out as a unit: The Canadian service centre mentioned that everything is glued together, and that simply is not the case. Yes, there is some hot glue on the connectors to prevent the connectors from separating if the unit is moved around or bumped, but this is a common sight with consumer electronics and can be easily removed by some careful prying away with a screwdriver. Through my testing, I found that the power supply on my unit had failed. The unit is an LPS-U101D2405L dual switching power supply, made by ETOP electronics in China. The PSU takes a 120VAC source and converts it to two separate 24VDC and 5VDC rails. The 24V rail appears to power the amplifier and speakers, while the 5V rail appears to power all the other electronics, including the control panel, LEDs on the front of the sound bar, and Bluetooth functionality. I found that when unloaded, the rails output 24V and 5V as they should, but once the Bar 48 PCB is connected to the 5V rail, output from the 5V rail drops to 2.7V. This is likely not enough voltage to power the main PCB, thus causing the no-power issue that many have experienced. I have reached out directly to ETOP (as an FYI this is not an easy thing to do!), and have confirmation that the power supply has failed. Per the spec sheet they sent me, operating voltage on the 5V rail should be 5V +/- 0.5V, so the 2.7V reading is well outside of spec, which was further confirmed by their engineering department. I’ve made arrangements to have a replacement power supply sent my way (with which to compare with my failed unit), so in the meantime I was going to try and diagnose exactly which component in the power supply failed. The goal here is to provide the Klipsch community with a low-cost option to fix your dead Bar 48s. As a disclaimer, I am not an electronics savant, but I am pretty handy with electronics and am extremely determined to fix this sound bar due to this awful customer service experience. Additionally, I was going to use this as an opportunity to learn more about power supply and voltage regulator design. So as mentioned earlier, when a load is applied to the 5V rail, output drops to 2.7V. I believe this might be related to a failed component in the 5V rail voltage regulator, which appears to have a couple of components that would be relatively easy to swap out. The first is an A12N65H MOSFET attached to a heatsink on the board. The MOSFET tested fine, but doesn’t appear to provide full continuity between the drain and source pins after the gate has been activated. Again, I’m not an electronics expert, so perhaps this is normal but I ordered a replacement MOSFET to install just in case. The second component I was going to look at was the LD7552BPS pulse-width modulation controller. I believe these are used for controlling voltage, with operating frequency set by a resistor connected to Pin #4. Maybe a resistor failed? I’m not sure! Having a second, replacement power supply handy will help me validate some of these things! The simple solution here would be to have offer a power supply replacement for these units that failed, but since those aren't available it looks like a DIY approach is the only option. Either way, stay tuned with my progress on this, as I will get my Bar 48 working again, despite Klipsch telling me there’s nothing that can be done.
  19. It's not just a matter of having a bunch of components and hoping they can be connected is such a way as to product the desired result. In your case you need to understand the capabilities and limitations of your soundbar, TV, and projector. If you want to obtain the best sound from your Cinema 600, including surround sound from your Surround 3 speakers, you have two choices: HDMI ARC Digital HDMI ARC offers greater bandwidth and increased functionality. According to Klipsch Product Support, the Cinema 600 does support Dolby Digital Plus but I've never been able to get it to work. UPDATE (2021-12-04): Klipsch Product Support, states they were mistaken and that the Cinema 600 does not support Dolby Digital Plus. I have a Samsung Q70R TV. Originally, I had a BAR 48 connected to it via the HDMI ARC connection. You can read about all the issues I encountered elsewhere in this forum. The BAR 48 specs state the soundbar supports Dolby Digital Plus. My TV will allow me to select DD+ if the attached device supports it. When I selected it, the Bar 48 locked up. Long story short: After a year I received a Cinema 600 as a warranty replacement. Now it is connected to the same TV via HDMI ARC but my TV no longer gives me the option of choosing DD+. I had a case opened with Klipsch Product Support for twenty months and, despite many attempts, I still haven't been able to get an update on the status of this issue. With no HDMI ARC nor Digital output from your projector there is no way it can provide a high quality audio stream let alone a Dolby Digital audio stream. Period! Perhaps... Your TV supports Dolby Digital as does your soundbar but Dolby Digital supports several different formats besides 5.1 including 2 channel stereo. If you expect a 5.1 audio feed to your soundbar then all the connections from the source to the soundbar also have to support 5.1 audio. This includes any apps you may have on a smart TV. Based on the information you provided, that's your best option to incorporate your Cinema 600 into your existing system. If your projector had a digital audio output it would greatly simplify things.
  20. I have a Bar 48 with a bluetooth woofer. Last night all worked normally. Today sound bar will not power up. No LEDs show. Soundbar seems dead. Woofer seem to be working but cannot connect to bar. Other devices connected to surge protector are working normally. Anybody got ideas except soundbar unit is dead? Thanks in advance!

    What I Got Today!

I received the Cinema 400 soundbar/sub that I ordered from Klipsch for their factory refurbished sale the other day. Haven't opened it up yet. My best friend ordered the BAR 48 from the same sale and his soundbar came with a crack in it.
  22. I’ve got cracking in my wireless Surround 3 speakers connected to my Bar 48. It’s intermittently R or L or both at once & seems to come when I’m switching a channel or source. Switching surround mode off eliminates it until I turn surround mode back on, however unplugging the surround speaker seems to reset it resulting in no crackling. At first I thought it was cable related, but occurs with both comcast and ATV, then I thought it was related to using the dialogue mode, but that wasn’t it either. Looks like other folks have the same problem on the forum but I don’t see any answers there. I’m wondering if the issue is WiFi related and unplugging the surround speaker resets it’s little WiFi chip or settings? I don’t have to re-pair the unit to the Bar 48 after repowering the unit which makes me thing it’s not resetting to a default mode…any suggestions on preventing this intermittent crackling?
  23. How does Virtual Surround work with Surround 3 speakers connected? I raised this question when I had my BAR 48 but I never got a answer. The Cinema 600 user manual doesn't provide any additional information. The documentation is severely lacking. Regarding Virtual Surround and Surround sound with Surround 3 speakers connected, the manual states: When the ((SUR)) LED is on, Virtual Surround mode is engaged. When the ((SUR)) LED is on and the Surround 3 speakers are connected, sound will emanate from the Surround 3 speakers. It never specifies what kind of sound! I finally got some answers from the Product Support group and thought I'd share them with the Community. Every little bit of information helps...
  24. I have my bar 48 hooked up to my LG tv via ARC. When I turn the volume up , it goes all the way up, when I press volume down, it goes all the way down. Will the update fix this issue?
  25. The technical information Klipsch has provided on the Cinema 600 (and its predecessor the BAR 48) is severely lacking. You may contact Tech Support and ask but when I tried that last year and asked what Bluetooth profiles were supported I was simply told that that information had not been published. 😞
