jcmusic
What are you guys using to stop the vibrations in your tt setups? I have my SM on glass shelves in a rack and discovered I need some kind of islolation. Jay
capo72
I'm not using anything yet, but I have a plan! I'm in the middle of the restoration of my Thorens TD-124/ SME 3009/ Zu DL-103 combo. I plan on building a heavy plinth for the Thorens then I will test with and with out the "mushrooms". Then that will sit on a DIY platform i'm planning. I plan to either use racquet balls, emulating the Ginko Cloud type table, I may also try the bicycle inner tube "air bladder" type set up. I plan to build my platform so I can experiment with these and other techniques of isolation. I'm also interested to see what others are using. fenderbender
I bought a 2" thick piece of maple and placed some cheep $10 (can't remember the name) multilayered blocks for feet. I can do jumping jacks one foot away from my rig now, with no effect.....
jcmusic
I have a rumble thing going on and need to fix it however i can. Jay
fenderbender
Is it your Scoutmaster that has the issue???.....with the motor totally separated from the plinth, it's strange that you would get rumble? but what do I know....
kaiser SET say
My solution[]
jcmusic
Maybe what about swinging? How is that effect? Jay
kaiser SET say
I've not had that problem, now sure you can hit that platform and she will swing but I've got a method of blocking the platform corners with my hands until she is dead still with the platter in rotation and then drop the arm in and away we go! The cables are not that long especially the back ones, shorter has equated to far less sway than long runs of equal length[] Here's a shot of Seti's table on it, I'm sure he can attest to it's sound if he's around. jcmusic
Kinda scary with a 60 + pound TT swinging around!!! Jay
LarryC
Ouch, I never see anything about VPI rumble. Unless something pathological is going on, it sounds like a resonance between the glass shelf, motor, and 'table. Intuitively to me, I can sense where glass might have that potential. I suggest you contact VPI to see what they suggest. To help break any resonance linkup, I would also follow suggestions here about inserting a wood interface between the glass and the 'table, maybe with foam or absorbent rubber blocks either between the glass and the wood or the wood and the 'table. I know, I like to get those kinds of problems solved asap.
jcmusic
Yes Larry it is kinda driving me a bit, the music still sounds great; but I know that that noise is there in the background. What is really strange is that I don't ever remember hearing it before. Jay
kaiser SET say
Depends on your anchor/ceiling strength. The heavier the table/platform the longer your cables can actually be as it would take a pretty substantial hit to make it sway and the sheer mass keeps it in place[Y]
kaiser SET say
Jay, you have not somehow inadvertantly lightened the tone arm weight have you. Just asking as I had this problem once on a heavy table and never did figure out how the weight was changed or how I could not tell the arm was floating more[]
seti
Here's a shot of Seti's table on it, I'm sure he can attest to it's sound if he's around. It works great. Slight sway would be better than the vibrations I get off of the floor.

kaiser SET say
I can't imagine that table having any slop in the bearing assym and I'm sure you have double if not triple checked the belt tracking. Best of luck and I hope you find it soon[Y]
Cal Blacksmith
Glass and tube audio stand (about 100# worth) sitting on carpet and a concrete floor. Mine is stable as can be, it might be something to do with the multi ton rock that the stand is sitting on, I don't know[]
