Jocke
Hello guys, long time no see. I'm thinking of upgrading my AVR as many others. I have a very small room but a pretty good system. My speakers are as follows: Towers: RF-82 Center;RC-62 Sourrounds: 4X RS-52 SUB: RW-10d Subwoofer ( I know it is a small sub, but it fills my room very well, I even have to supress it to -12 on the sub and -5.5 in the AVR to make it match with the room). I'm debating between Pioneer Elite SC35 or 37, Denon 4311Ci, Onkyo TX-NR5008 and Marantz 7005. I try so hard to find reviews of them but cant as some of them arent out yet. I currently have THX decoding which I love using for THX blu-ray disc, but it is not a requirement. If you have a better suggestion I'm all open. Please help me here. Thanks a million. UPDATE: I forgot to let you guys know that my receiver is an Pioneer Elite VSX-03. UPDATE 2: Although a External amps seems great on the POWER side I still want just an AVR with the newer features. Now, I'm debating between Pioneer ELITE SC-37 and DENON 4311. Both VERY nice receiverwith both Power and the newer features. Pioneer is THX and Class D amp while Denon has newer features such as audessey DSX and audessey multieq XT 32 calibration which also calibrate the sub as well seprately. Please give me some good answers here. .
jephdood
Marantz is an EXCELLENT pairing with Klipsch. My vote is for the 7005.
elitedemo
my vote is the lowest model 05 probably a 5005, then get a power amp no need to waste money on a amp section in avr when you have those speakers, let them sing
smokarz
those receivers you mentioned are over a $1k, with that budget. i would rather spend it on a decent amp. Emotiva XPA-3 $529 http://emotiva.com/xpa3.shtm Either one of these decent receivers to power the 4 rears. Pioneer VSX-1120 $490 http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-VSX-1120-K-Audio-Video-Receiver/dp/B0039XQQXA/ref=sr_1_1?tag=slickdeals&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1286664000&sr=1-1&prv=forums&cur=forums&ses= Yamaha RXV-765 $350 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882115197&nm_mc=AFC-SlickDeals&cm_mmc=AFC-SlickDeals-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA
BluBitRates
Like smokaz said external amp is probably the way to go. The receivers you mentioned will definantly get the job done though. I would rank them as Pioneer Elite, Marantz, Denon then Onkyo. I based that purely on brand preferance though and know alot of people like their onkyos. willland
SUB: RW-10d Subwoofer ( I know it is a small sub, but it fills my room very well, I even have to supress it to -12 on the sub and -5.5 in the AVR to make it match with the room). I have the RW-10d sub in my bedroom and I think it is great for a smaller room. I'm thinking of upgrading my AVR as many others. I have a very small room but a pretty good system. I'm debating between Pioneer Elite SC35 or 37, Denon 4311Ci, Onkyo TX-NR5008 and Marantz 7005. I would suggest saving your money on a new receiver and get a good amp to power your mains or your mains/center and get a year or two older HDMI receiver to be the pre/pro and have it's amps power your center/surrounds or just your surrounds. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/ele/2019944990.html I have the Onkyo TX-SR705 and it has performed flawlessly for 3 years. http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstran&1292548053&/Parasound-HCA-1500A-205w-X-2 http://www.epinions.com/review/elec-Audio-Components-Amplifiers-All-Parasound_HCA-1500A/content_109066948228 Both pieces are somewhat local pickup to you. Jocke
Thanks guys. I forgot to mention my receiver. Its a Pioneer Elite VSX-03 It does have pre-outs so an external amp could be added. Anymore suggestions?

Did you check out that Parasound? If you ad that amp, your Pioneer should have plenty of power to run your center and surrounds. Let the seller know you are local and maybe he will cut you a better deal. Bill

In my quest to find great 2-channel performance in an AVR, I was really looking for a great deal on that Marantz SR8002 when I stumbled upon my NAD T773 at a local pawn shop. That is a killer deal on Marantz' $2000.00 top of the line receiver with HDMI. Bill

Ironsave
Anymore suggestions? I'm dying here looking everyday at this post. All I can say is I hear great things about the Emotiva XPAs, if you indeed go that route. If you are dead set on a receiver, I reccomend any of the four brands you mentioned. I am partial to Onkyo... less warm; more nuetral sound; IMHO. Mine was $140 used/ mint..... For a receiver that has EVERYTHING except HDMI.... not bad. Going on one year here...... Still am amazed at how good 2 channel sounds on my system.....
psg
Things I look for: - pre-outs on all channels for amps. - bass management that allows different crossover points for different speakers (I use 40, 60 and 80 for mains, center and surrounds). - room EQ if you are into that. - a nice remote. - not too much power (can use external amps) but stability at 4 ohms. I like hk receivers.

Being able to set an individual EQ for each speaker allows you to acheive a good timbre match with different speakers. (My KV 4 matches REALLY well with the Heresies; Doing this with the EQ has helped immensely). HK is a GREAT brand. But different strokes for different folks. (Too pricey for me; even used.... Shoulda bought Rnuggets' HK a few months back). I am currently intrigued with the Pioneer Elites..... I am all good with my Onkyo. I do love this receiver. Love my Elite 94 although as mentioned above it doesnt have different crossover points for different speakers just different crossovers points for across the whole board and that is one but the only thing I dont like about it but never really needed it just would of been nice to have to experiment. I think if I were to upgrade whitch im in no hurry to i'd be looking at some of the Marantz AVR's . For me 80Hz has been the best for me and my setup but i've been trying 50Hz whitch sounds pretty good to with my 7's .
