Moderators dtel Posted January 21, 2012 Moderators Share Posted January 21, 2012 I'm sorry but that's funny We have been on a few of those boats and can only imagine how that would feel, but I did laugh first, before I felt bad about laughing. Groomlakearea51
"On the sea there is a tradition older even than the traditions of the country itself and wiser in its age than this new custom. It is the tradition that with responsibility goes authority and with them accountability. ...for men will not long trust leaders who feel themselves beyond accountability for what they do. And when men lose confidence and trust in those who lead, order disintegrates into chaos and purposeful ships into uncontrollable derelicts." BigStewMan
as someone that spent over 20 years in the coast guard, and someone that has been in rough seas, and someone that has been thousands of miles out to sea...his actions are shameful and definitely NOT in the tradition of most mariners. Normally, a mariner will quickly come to the aid of someone in distress.
JJkizak
He claims now that management ordered him to make the course change. But then again the rocks don't care. JJK
germerikan
What we are hearing here is it was SOP to go so close to the shore as a sort of marketing gag and was done often not only by him, just this time it went wrong. If he did get the commando from higher up (there was a marketing slogan on their homepage which was taken down quickly after the wreck) he will not be the only one going down. That he left the ship without helping the others is completely wrong!!
Groomlakearea51
Good thing pilots don't swing their 747's on a low level pass over New York for the passengers to have that "panorama" view..... LOL!!!
Moderators dtel Posted January 24, 2012 Moderators Share Posted January 24, 2012 You would think if it were a marketing gag they would pass a area that has more than a few hundred people on it. Either way as a capitan even if he was ordered he has the responsibility for the safety of over 4000 which would/should come first.
