Drox
Omnimount RE42 rack. Got it because of the built in cooling system and all the shelves it came with. Oh and of course the $643 price tag shipped to my door! Pics taken with my cheap phone.

Moderators dtel Posted October 31, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 31, 2012 Very nice, is that a lock on the front ? First class [H] Looking at the weight specs, your not going to overload it, I wouldn't think. []
Boxx
Very nice.... I may look into one of these...
Drox
Yes it is a lock, both front and back panels open up and have locks. If you're looking at getting one, now would be the time, before it jumps back up to $750 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=&id=pcat17071&type=page&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960&st=re42
akdave
Congrats! That should serve you well! I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on noise from the cooling system (if any) when running. Looks like a great investment at a good price.
Drox
The cooling system is pretty darn loud, but this will be tucked away in an audio closet where I won't hear a thing I figured if I bought the shelves alone it would cost me half the price I paid for the whole unit (for decent shelves). ivanhurd
Looks pretty nice. Cooling system is definitely a must in an enclosure like that. Do they make them half that size?

ivanhurd
^^^Thanks for the link, I think even the 27 might be more the size I'd be looking for.
Drox
The cooling system is pretty loud, So if you're putting it out in the open I suggest replacing the fans with some that are a little quieter. If it's hidden away, they should be fine, they push a BUNCH of air.
Chris A
One other issue that I potentially see is the cabinet walls that are made of painted steel, and are not acoustically damped on the outside. This might not be an issue in-room, but only if the rack is not located between the speakers or close by at the side wall in the front of the room, unless something is done to absorb acoustic reflections or resonances off the steel. Drox
When I rolled it into place it was very resonant and loud, once I started putting a bit of gear in it the sound started to die off. The side panels on it might be a problem with the lower frequencies. I can see them rattling, but won't know for sure until I get everything in and set up with a movie going. If it does a little bit of foam stripping will fix it.
jacksonbart
will it fit a bottle of white wine?
