Boxx
It would be a great outing.... Yes it would be. CONFESSION ............we have never been to Jazzfest I would love to go.... I've been to the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival several times, but not the one in New Orleans.http://dentonjazzfest.com/index.shtml
CECAA850
I saw the Robert Cray band there years ago. Whew, what a party. It was in the horse race track when I went. Is it still there? I was fortunate as my neices husband was a N.O. native, born and raised. He knew the shortest, fastest roads to where ever we wanted to go. RT FAN
I too have never been to Jazzfest, which is a crying shame considering how much I love the music of New Orleans, in all its quirky permutations. Jazzfest veterans I know, say the one place you have to spend some time is in the Gospel tent. The only big name bands I would see would be Los Lobos beacause I think they are one of the best live bands I have seen, & Willie Nelson, because I have never seen him. For me I would concentrate on the Blues, Cajun, Brass bands & Zydeco aspect of the fest. so I would see as many of the following as I could: Allen Toussaint, Beausoleil, Dr. John, Kenny Neal, Marcia Ball, Nathan & the Zydeco Cha-Chas, Rebirth Brass band, Savoy Family Cajun Band, Sonny Landreth, Terrence Simien w/ Queen Ida, Del McCoury & the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Kermit Ruffins & the BBQ Swingers, The Meter Men, Walter Wolfman Washington, Wayne Toups & Zydecajun. The list is overwhelming, so I am sure I have skipped some I would like to see. If you are going, check out some of these acts, I am sure you will enjoy them. Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!!!!! Lonelobo
That list is incomplete without Trombone Shorty. PS. He isn't short
Moderators dtel Posted February 25, 2013 Moderators Share Posted February 25, 2013 I too have never been to Jazzfest, which is a crying shame considering how much I love the music of New Orleans For anyone who visits and wants to hear some local music including Zydeco and other local music a great place to go is Rock n bowl on 3000 S Carrollton avenue. http://www.rocknbowl.com/ The have the music schedule on the site, it's cheap, very casual and $10-$12 per person, some tables a big dance floor and good food. And yes it one huge open building, and the back wall is a bowling alley which is open at the same time, but no you will not hear it when the music is playing. I have only seen one or two but kids are welcome, we have even brought our grandkids to go listen to music. Yes it's a bar room somewhat but it's New Orleans and also a bowling alley, just don't let the kids drink. []
