Lone Palm
Toni Price is an excellent singer of a wide range of material. She's from Austin and does "real"country music,a touch of blue grass, torch songs, blues, and folk. She's a singer that everybody who owns Klipsch should hear. Give Blue Rodeo a listen. Sarah does some back up stuff with them on "Five Days In July.
fini
Y'all have mentioned some of my favorites (I've gotta get that Eva Cassidy cd, Indy!). Some others: kd lang Jennifer Warnes Kate Bush Bonnie Raitt Iris DeMent Joan Baez Can't go wrong with any o' their stuff. fini Edit: Looking at your original post, phishkin, I'm guessing Jennifer Warnes, Iris DeMent, and Joan Baez would be closest to what you're looking for, from my list. Big Bean
Here's my two cents - certainly Eva Cassidy and Holly Cole and Claire Martin. Personally I think Diana Krall is boooooring and very ordinary. ------------------ eat your vegetables

dblue
Check some Alison Krauss. Also, Bjork, Vespertine. This is electronic music, but it's very well engineered, and has some really sweet sounding vocals IMO. Not really dancy either. Ambient sounds. ------------------ "May your mind be like water and mold to many things." -Bruce Lee
Mikekid
Rosanne Cash has a fantastic voice too! "This one goes to 11"
jdm56
Linda Ronstadt - fantastic chops, but not much in the way of real audiophile quality recordings. Jennifer Warnes - Ah, a personal favorite of mine, but there is just too little of her music out there. Of course, she only records sporadically, it seems. Holly Cole - "I'm melting, I'm melting! I...LOVE...HER!!!s> Alison Kraus - This is how the angels sing. Iris DeMent - I love her too, but her voice and style might not appeal to those with any aversion to hillbilly twang. Aretha Franklin - before smoking Emmylou Harris - before she wore her voice out singing on EVERY-FREAKIN'-BODY'S records! ------------------ JDM
ShapeShifter
Carol King - Tapestry (1971) Gabriela Anders - Wanting (1998) Celine Dion - All The Way...A Decade Of Song (1999) May not fit criteria, but very good vocals and arrangements: Minnie Riperton - Perfect Angel (1974), Minnie (1979) Randy Crawford - Through The Eyes Of Love (1981) Phyllis Hayman - Living All Alone (1986) ------------------ KLIPSCH IS MUSICf> My Systems f>s>c> This message has been edited by ShapeShifter on 08-19-2002 at 05:47 AM
krusty46
I know its kind of stretching it to call it female vocals (by that I mean raspy voice), but some of the Melissa Etheridge albums, especially Yes I am and Your Little Secret sound pretty good. Good quality discs and the acoustic guitar sounds great. And she has a strong voice. To me she sounds very good over my klipsch speakers. Just my 2 cents. ------------------ Mains: KLF 10's Center: RC-3 (I know--doesn't match mains) Surrounds: Quintets Receiver: Denon 3802 DVD: Toshiba 3109 and Denon DVD-900 TV: Sony 36XBR400 MIT T2 and T3cables throughout

Good2BHome
Thanks all, for the Eva Cassidy suggestion. She's a new find for me today and a Keeper!! Indy, you can keep posting. My suggestions: Julie London - "Best Of..." not the best audio of her classics but a very good set of tracks of probably the best "Torch Singer" there has ever been. Loreena McKennitt - "The Book of Secrets" Diana Krall - "All For You" Celine Dion - "Falling Into You" Annie Lennox - "Medusa" ------------------ 4 Cornwalls & McIntosh SS This message has been edited by Good2BHome on 08-23-2002 at 02:36 PM
