But something like the kpt1201 would cost less and be even better. Bigger more effortless. Plus it would match your fronts better im sure. The color is awesome on it but there are a few things that could be better on it. $720 delivered to my door I can't complain. Way to many suggestions and Ideas to mull through for me. I like the way the one guy hid his speakers behind the screen but I can't imagine a more worse idea when it comes to getting the best sound from them. It's like stacking them in a closet and expecting great sound. Not trying to be a debbie downer, Just that placement is pretty crucial to great sound. I drywalled over my window on the end of the room then painted the wall with flat white ceiling paint and called it good. I'm sure you'll come up with what suits you best though. It's like stacking them in a closet and expecting great sound. IMO, that's actually the best sound for movies because it totally anchors the sound directly where the action is taking place. As mentioned, with an AT screen, you won't hear the difference. It's exactly how they have it setup in every movie theater. It's designed to allow for sound to travel through the screen. My current 103" screen would sound horrible if I placed a speaker behind it because it is not acoustically transparent. I can say that with my current false wall, it did effect the sound because the main speakers were in a "cubby" as you can see below. With my new false wall, it will be totally different. The kpt-1201 smoke the rs62ii for music. Its not even close really. Movies are closer but its still the 1201 all the way. The much larger horn driver has a bigger cleaner sound. When the sound pans from the front back to them. It still has that large sound the fronts have. I never thought I was missing anything with the rs62ii. And they are really really good. MichaelandKlipsch Posted August 27, 2014 Share Posted August 27, 2014 Perforated definitely doesn’t hinder any sound and I agree it anchors it all front and center just like at a theater. I also agree that you should take your time and tackle one thing at a time. This project if rushed will look rushed. I took almost 6 months to make my theater look extremely professional both in aesthetics and sound. Now I’m sure it can be done in much less time than that but I am an ocd perfectionist so I meticulously painted each wall with 3 coats, each molding with 3 coats, the ceiling with 3 coats, changed every piece of hardware, made every line straight, did all the electrical sconce lighting to code, ran all of my speaker wires through brushed plates etc etc so I definitely didn’t rush. I suggest you take each aspect you’re working on into some deep thought each day as you don’t want to waste money or time re-doing anything. Also as many will chime in this experience is some of the most fun you will have and often many enjoy the build process as much as the end result so I say relish in it all. The roll down screens are nice but if you have a dedicated room for this home theater the fixed screen IMO gives a more finished look so I wouldn’t stray away from that if it is your purpose. I also think the KPT line would be better suited for the Lascalas though the RS-62s sound great and I liked them when I had them as well as hearing them with Youth’s Lascalas. Porn_Star Posted August 28, 2014 Author Share Posted August 28, 2014 yeah, i will focus on the windows, paint, and acoustic panels first. i ordered 6 703 panels along with canvas that my friend uses to paint on last night. i am gonna dye the canvas black, then have him paint some of them up for me. while i am waiting on that, i will start painting this monday. gotta find a color i like, and move all my existing equipment away from the walls. i was looking at some of the recessed lighting, and dimmers to go with the harmony one remote i ordered last night as well. i cant quite pull the trigger on lighting yet. where did yall get the 703 board from? 6 ended up costing me 105 dollars. Also, @youthman, what software did you use to help set up the room? The software I use is extremely complex but I'm not fully convinced on how accurate it is. There are 4 parts that I used (both software and hardware). And if I were to be totally honest, I have NO idea how it all works but it's pretty amazing. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Yeah, my "calibration" consisted of my ears, my brain, Harman Kardon's EzSet/EQ with calibration mic and a Radioshack Analog SPL Meter. The pictures look like awesome help to keep from getting that 'crap that's not gonna fit' bump your head on the wall moment. I'm not a visionary so I need photos so I can see how it all fits together. Since I first began my HT, I have always used Photoshop to mock up my room. My buddy Wakejunkie is an engineer and Photoshop is 2D so he had to one up me and sketched up the entire room in Google Sketchup. It's an awesome program that allows you to draw your room in a 3D environment so you can get a feel for the exact size, depth etc. Best part is it's FREE. I want as large of a viewing area that I can get. Gonna put my amps/subs/receiver/ and all below the screen, and la scalas behind of course. So I don't really need much room to the sides. My bad, I thought you asked about what I used to "setup the room", I thought you were referring to something like REW Software to calibrate and EQ the room. What size screen would you go with if you had my room? Size depends on a lot of factors such as viewing distance, available throw distance, brightness of your projector etc. Your room is 13' wide so that's 156" wide. Take away 6" width for screen border and you have 150" to work with. You also have to think how much height you will have to work with which depends on how tall your bottom cabinet area will be. If it were my room, I would go with 150" screen and adjust my seating to where it was comfortable viewing distance since you have 20' to work with. Also depends on whether you will have one row or two rows of seating. With 1 row, you can easily go with 150" screen. I'm probably pushing it with 150" screen and a 9' viewing distance. I can always mask the screen down to 140" if I find that it is too large for my viewing distance. Use the Projector Pro at projector central to plug in that BenQ projector and play with it to see what throw distance you will need and such. Are you set on 16:9 or have you considered 2.35:1? I did a lot of research and decided for my needs, a CIH (Constant Image Height) using 2.35:1 worked best for my setup since my room is primarily used for movies. I LOVE having a cinescope screen. It really sets it apart from what my friends experience on a 16:9 setup on their TV's. The wall area I will build will be 12×8 so I don't have the luxury of a 10 foot ceiling. No problems there.....if you look at my sketchup, just imagine not having the top cabinets. If I remember right I believe I have exactly 141 inches from side to side. With a 141" width, subtract 6" for your screen border and you have 135" wide screen. That would be 57" H x 135" W and 147" Diagonal max size for 2.35:1 screen. If you went with a 16:9 screen, that would be 76" H x 135" W and 155" Diagonal max size. Think I found a single la scala for 250! Without hesitation, buy it. Or 2 for 600 closer as well. (most likely tack them to the wall under the existing curtains) id like to put the screen on the wall with the single window. (i will probably double tint this glass and make sure no light gets through maybe even add some insulation to keep the heat down as well) i really like youthmans seating arrangment so i figured i would copy it for the most part. i want to maximize the screen size so i was thinking about 120 inches? i like the idea of a roll up screen and was wondering what was wrong with them as no one seems to use them from what i have seen. what software have you all been using to make plans from?? excuse the mess, i am currently rebuilding my soon to be bedroom setup as we speak. Porn start is your room 13 or 12ft wide? My # was based on 12' that you posted here. If its 13 then my # is wrong.
