wvu80
There is a TON of stuff on LS's on this forum. Your best bet is to do a search, and you will find lots of background information, including many hop up ideas. To get the ball rolling with others, tell your story, and include pictures. Around here, if there aren't pictures, it didn't happen. How did you get them, did you get a "deal," where will you put them, what kind of amp you will be using, and how you intend to use them, as part of a home theater set up, or as a 2-channel set up. Do you have a sub(s)? Serial numbers? And the most important part, how close do the neighbors live, and you have a real understanding wife? ryanm84
If you are looking for a build date, post either stamped serial number or info off the back labels.

Moderators dtel Posted September 25, 2014 Moderators Share Posted September 25, 2014 Welcome, nice speakers, good choice but I think they will scare the other speakers in that pic.

mustang guy
Those are nice and you paid a good price. I listen to ss and tubes with my Lascalas. No matter what you use, you will need less volume. These are incredibly efficient speakers, and 100 watts from these will make your head explode. If you have never had fully horn loaded speakers, you are in for a treat. The first thing I realized when I bought my Lascalas is that they do human voices very realistically. I still turn around quite frequently thinking there is somebody coming in the room. Also, I found out that the old songs from the 80's that I used to sing along to, I was singing wrong. With Lascalas, you can actually hear the lyrics.
tonyjunior93657
I have them powered by my pioneer sx-1250. But I'm not sure if I should go with ss or tube. Also what is the power handling on 93 la scalas I have?
Quiet_Hollow
But I'm not sure if I should go with ss or tube. The sky is the limit, but the choice can be made easier by looking at your source material. If it's mostly digital...there's some amps that have come out in the last 8-9 years that really leverage that type of source. If your collection is largely analog, a tube pre/amp or better receiver just might the the ticket to better sound. 93 La Scala are rated for 100 watts. Just a bit over 25 volts.....ie. loud enough to scare people.

mustang guy
Just as an example: 100 watts from a LaScala at 1 meter is 121 db, which is it's high rms output 250 watts from a B&W Nautilus 803 is 113 db, which is it's high rms output Tha LaScala can go 8db more than the B&W even though it's max watts are less than half as much. In fact, for the B&W to go to 121db, you would have to crank 1,500 watts into it. Of course, it would be toast...

Taz
You seem to have a nice receiver as is. But you will never know if you would rather run tubes until you try them. Even then the tube equipment varies depending on what you got..
