The History Kid
I'm trying to figure out the differences between the two in the early Klipsch Reference lines. For example, the RB-5 and RB-5 II's both seem to be identical in specs. Same goes for the entire RS/F/C-3 models. Does anyone know if there is an actual difference in sound between the two? Be aware, I'm only talking about the speakers I've listed here...I know that there's a difference in the later I and II's. Moderators Youthman Posted September 25, 2014 Moderators Share Posted September 25, 2014 From what I can tell from the website, the only thing that changed was the available finishes (Oak, Mahogany or Black Wood) to (Cherry, Maple & Black Ash)
The History Kid
Black Wood seems to be similar to the matte finish. I'm just trying to make sure I'm keeping setups with like-speaker lines. Not wanting to make the mistakes that I used to make of switching up lines and brands. oldenough
Yes, only difference is finish, I own both rb5 and rb5ii and they are an excellent speaker.
The History Kid
Ah great to hear oldenough. Was hoping to get some feedback from someone who has had both as well. Thanks!
Schwa
The Gen II References were wired internally with Monster Z-series cable; the original References had "generic" internal wiring. Audible differences were likely zero.
The History Kid
Agreed on that point. I mean...they didn't need to wire La Scalla's and Klipschorns with Monster Z wiring and people don't seem to complain about that.

The RB-5 was a very well received speaker, the critics were for the best part in agreement that it was one fine speaker. My Klipschorns from this time period were wired with Monster wire... Bill
psg
They had a deal with Monster and wired speakers using their wire, until Monster starting selling speakers (as I recall) and the deal went sour.
mattSER
Monster sells speakers? Let me guess: -Mini-"reference" monitors -Delivers the sound of a massive "audiophile" hi-fi system in a small wife-friendly package -Frequency response specs too good to publish -Comes in lots of cool colors -MSRP $999/ea -Signed by Dr. Dre How close am I? I can't be assed to visit the site.
The History Kid
Well they do have that beats pill box thing that they talk up all the time. I've heard on before at Best Buy, and I really can't tell the difference between that and the Sony Dream Machine alarm clock radios.
