tpg
Try finding some mp3's of THX tests... just for fun. But be careful with these things, they are hazardous to speakers.

Audio Flynn
I like the "Last of the Mohicans" soundtrack for testing. Allot of people like the "1812 Overture".
mobile homeless
Ahhh, your name takes you to new heights. I get all giddy when you 5 channel sort come slumming in the lowly 2 channel bin. The World seems oh so small without that Theater, Hall, Dance Club, Arena, bowling Alley ambience switch. How I love thee AV receiver! Let me count the ways! 5 channels at 100w per...hell, that's 500 watts of pure "Let There Be Rock" Joy. God Bless Technology. kh

kenratboy
Here is the grand daddy. I have a CD from 1983 (that old) and it is called Digital Domain. Basically, it was a CD ment to demonstrate what a CD player could do. There are recordings of jets, helicopters, nature, dynamic synthesized sound, etc. It also has the THX sound. Cool stuff. Here it is: CD The best part? My dad was the manager for Oakland Internation Airport at the time, and he drove the two dudes that recorded the jet and helicopter sounds out onto the airport. So, he ~directly was part of the CD. He got it for free as a thank you. Man, think of what home theater was like in 1983... ------------------ Receiver: Sony STR-DE675 CD player: Sony CDP-CX300 Turntable: Technics SL-J3 with Audio-Technica TR485U Speakers: JBL HLS-610 Subwoofer: JBL 4648A-8 Sub amp: Parts Express 180 watt Center/surrounds: Teac 3-way bookshelfs Yes, it sucks, but better to come. WMcD
I like Symphonic Star Trek on Telarc. I've said that before. The music is familiar and well performed. Included are effects like Tribbles, Energy Ribbon, and going to Warp Speed. The CD has the usual warnings about subsonics. Be careful. Mallette
I have to remember to have the volume down when I boot the PC that has a SB Live! Platinum in it. The thunder effect for logon is most impressive. I also found the steam engine on the DynaQuad demo LP acquired recently and discussed in this forum at least as impressive as the 30 year later THX engine. Dave ------------------ David A.
