fuzzydog
I was just handed one to play with, but I don't even know what i would use it for that I don't already get through DirecTV and Netflix. Anyone use one of these and know what they're good for?
rockhound
I have one that I mostly use to airplay spotify to my 2 channel rig. They are great if you have a lot of digital content that you own (movies, music etc) Like everything apple if you have the apple ecosystem they integrate seamlessly. Also mine has a digital out so I can hook it to my Dacmagic. I don't even have a TV for mine lol.
Moderators Youthman Posted April 8, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 8, 2016 I too mostly use mine to stream audio and video from my iPhone to my HT.
Moderators Youthman Posted April 8, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 8, 2016 I use an Apple Airport Express in my 2ch setup since I don't have a TV in the living room. Airport Express is just for audio, AppleTV streams audio and video. I've even used the AppleTV to show photos from my phone on the big screen say after a vacation. fuzzydog
I too mostly use mine to stream audio and video from my iPhone to my HT. That's something there. I've never tried to stream from my iPad to the theater. I'll need to test it out and see how it looks.
avguytx
I have two of them that are in my kids' rooms but they only use them for Netflix and PlexTV to be able to watch the DVD's on my server. I have a Roku3 in the master bedroom and an Amazon Fire Stick (running Kodi) that can both access Sling TV where the Apple TV can't. I just have them becasue we had leftover Apple TV 2's after the school I'm at quit using them because they had issues when they were too close and they just didn't really work great for education. Scrappydue
I have them on both theaters and they are simply to AirPlay music and video straight from my phone to the receiver and display.
MercedesBerater
I refuse to pay for cable tv or satellite. I use my Apple TV For Netflix, Pandora, and Frontline mostly. Otherwise use the xboxOne for Netflix or movies.
mustang guy
I mostly use it to play music from an extensive music library I built over the years in iTunes. I also use it as my Netflix interface in the shop. My Oppo has Netflix, but the AppleTV interface is faster.
ryanm84
I have Apple TV in my theater. You are right you don't get a bunch beyond directv, Hulu, etc. I have streamed FaceTime calls thru it however so everyone doesn't have to cram into a phone or iPad to see. Also since you can mirror your iPad thru Apple TV you can stream videos, movies, etc.
fuzzydog
I played with the mirroring function a bit last night, but wasn't too impressed with the picture quality. Seems like the resolution isn't good enough when the image is enlarged to a 60" tv.
Scrappydue
What exactly were you mirroring? My images are fantastic on my 138" screen
