Paducah Home Theater
My ultimax's aren't flat, had to use a DSP to boost it down low which didn't work out well, ended up going with a Seaton programmed amp which took care of the boosting internally. Most sealed 18's fall off below like 33 hz or so. Would be nice to be flat by default, natively.
Moderators Youthman Posted November 23, 2016 Author Moderators Share Posted November 23, 2016 Shaun doesn't have an EQ and he has an enormous amount of clean bass on the bottom end.
CECAA850
No boost needed.
Paducah Home Theater
Do you have a small room that's boosting 53 hz? That's a 15 db peak. !
CECAA850
I had to pull it down, that was before EQ. The room is about 20 x 21. Before I EQ'd it we watched Open Range. The gunshots felt like concussion grenades. It was cool but unnatural.

The Fi's have quite a bit more xmax though. They're also $274 each right now. Their Black Friday price is the same as it was last Wednesday
Moderators Youthman Posted November 28, 2016 Author Moderators Share Posted November 28, 2016 I likely won't be buying subs anytime soon but I'm pretty confident now that IB is the direction I want to go. I don't just want clean bass, I want bass that extends down to the single digits and Horns don't seem to do that. Currently, money has been tied up in the Outdoor Living Area we just finished building, hot tub and our upcoming family ski trip. My next speakers will likely be outdoor speakers for the Outdoor Living Area before I begin to upgrade the subs in the theater room.

RoboKlipsch
If you can get a hold of a mini-DSP, you can EQ the RSWs so that you have a flatter response in the meantime. No matter what you eventually use, you will need DSP of some sort unless the layout is completely different.
