Stevenarrow
Hey guys, stumbled on a pair of H700 Heresy's at an antieque shop while on vacation. What's the going rate on these: 1966 model. They work well, but the cane grills and enclosures are a little beat up. The logos look good. Should I buy them?

Stevenarrow
A little rough, but I am handy with veneer refinishing.
dtr20
Badges are not original, most likely new badges from klipsch, or replicas. The actual speakers themselves are great speakers, but those are in rough shape. What's the asking price?

I can work the wood a bit, but yeah, rough shape cosmetically. Asking $300. Seen nice ones go for twice that.
dtr20
The original badges were clear plastic back then. I would say $300 is a good price if they were in almost mint condition. I paid $150 for my h700s, in better shape.

Can you check that everything works? The xovers will need replaced.
JohnA
My 1967 H-700 has a black plastic pie slice logo like the ones Steve found.
Stevenarrow
I bought them for a restoration project. Just listening to them now, If anyone told me these were 50 years old, I'd laugh in their face. Sound really great.

Stevenarrow
Question: how do I tell if the diaphragms need replacing? Frequency sweeps? crackling/distortion?
dtr20
Is there a tweeter? That pic looks like the speaker is a 2 way, but it could just be the angle of the picture

Pretty much, if they work, the diaphragms do NOT need replacing. If there is a problem with a diaphragm, you'll hear a "ringing" or rubbing sound from the voice coil rubbing the magnet gap. The crossover caps in mine needed replacement, they sounded dark and dull, until I did it. I wish I had another, I like their sound better than my '79 Heresies. Obviously, it is the woofer that's better.

Not so, there were available both ways clear and black with the clear ones being a bit more rare. Those badges are period correct for those.

I will test the caps before pulling them out. Also, I will be doing a full cosmetic restoration... stay tuned.
