How much speaker can I get for $2000?

Hi All,

Not sure if this has been covered here but I wanted to get views and opinions from you guys on how much speaker can I get for $2000 budget for 2 channel audio?

I currently have no specifics other than it should be

a. full range / room filling (my room size is about 8m x 5m)

b. dynamic and

c. refine sounding (which presents music as a whole and does not call attention to itself)

Please feel free to chime in your "want speaker list" or "have/had speaker list" for this budget.

Offers are welcome as well :D

Thanks in advance
- cris

There will be many questions I am sure but let's start with:
1) What electronics (source / amplification) are you using?
2) What type music?

3) Volume you require?
4) Do you have 2 good corners to place the speakers in?

You beat me to it.  B)

My initial question was about budget, does the 2K include electronics?

Related, does 2-channel audio mean 2 speakers only, or are you open to having a sub?  My feeling is every system should have a sub.

Where are you located?

If I had $2000 to spend on Klipsch.

I would be patient and get a pair of La Scala, KLF-30, and Forte II or Chorus II and maybe a sub for the La Scala.

Given a little patience and depending on where you live (and being willing to drive), you should be able to get all 3 pairs for $2000 (I have).

I would let the music/mood determine which pair to hook up on a given night.

The mid horn on the La Scala is hard to pass up.  The punch of the KLF-30s bass is great.

IMO, the Forte/Forte II have the best output vs. cabinet size ratio of the extended heritage family.

The Chorus II are more of a good thing vs. the Forte/Forte II.

If you don't mind used you can find one heck of a pair of speakers for two G's. Belles, La Scalas, Chorus 1 and 2, Cornwalls, Forte 1 and 2, KLF-20 or KLF-30. You may even find a decent pair of used Pro speakers.

A new stereo pair of RF-7 II are currently available from authorized dealers on eBay for $1,799 including shipping (USA).  I recommend the cherry veneer.

Thanks, don't know if this beats my current speaker volume wise, what other advantage will this bring (I obviously haven't hear this yet)?

From Chicago here, I am relatively new to this place / country though

I agree that having numerous speaker has their advantages, hence I have small speaker for casual listening, medium speaker for non loud listening and big speakers for those moment I want to shout, sing or dance along with the music.

Stop doing this inverse speaker setup
My opinion is a set of Chorus IIs used or spend on a set of new Forte IIIs.

Most of my gears are used, don't have budget for new ones that I liked

As you say you have not heard some of the speakers we are suggesting. I own three pair of KG4's and every other speaker mentioned at this point blows them away.

Haha, you probably are right.. during that time I was craving for more decibel but those KG4's are intended to be given away to my father in law, where they are now.

I was looking at these as well.  But, on one of the sellers pages they stated that there is 'no warranty' on the 'open box' ones.  I'm not sure about the 'B Stock' veneer 7's.  Don't know if this matters if you're used to buying used anyway.  Just a thought.

Thanks Tim, forgive my construct, I was merely saying that most new speakers I like are way above my $2000 budget

You can get a lot of Klipsch for $2k. If you have anyone local to you that owns Klipsch Heritage you should give them a listen. There are a ton of speakers out there and something out there for everyone. You don't have to like what someone else likes. It just pays to listen with your own ears to see where you find yourself most content with the sound. I would also point out that Klipsch speakers punch way above their weight class. I have heard much more expensive speakers that sounded much worse than the Klipsch.

The fact that you can find Heresies for $400 or so in pretty good shape and pair them with a sub or two and still be well under a grand is insane. Heresies will blow most other brands out of the water when going dollar for dollar.

Do you have any limitations with your space? Heresies are small, not much larger than bookshelf speakers....but when you run them with a sub they are pretty hard to beat. They can sit on the floor with the angled risers they come with or you can put them on stands, end tables, etc to bring the tweeters and mids closer to ear level.

Just now I got curious on the RF7's, I will do some more research.

Here's a pic from the website.  I need to do some source upgrades first, but these are a must on my list.
