mopardave
I have a mod wright sony C333es that is getting very finiky at playin regular cd's( i believe you call they redbook), but plays all my sacd's no problem. Any idea's why? Could it be the CD's getting old?
Audio Flynn
I just recently retired my very old but Nice Panasonic RP91 DVD Audio player as my transport. Transport and laser are a black hole of sorts. 333 is awesome but getting longer in the tooth. Good luck. Rick
mopardave
Thinking maybe time to pull the trigger on a newer Marantz cd player and keep the sony for SACD only.
Born2RockU
I have the Sony 1000ES ...greatest purchase player ever. And, its 4K ...plays every format including SACD / DVD Audio etc... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjH1cXC8JbZAhUQWK0KHecOC3sQFgi5ATAF&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sonypremiumhome.com%2F4K-Blu-ray%2FUBPX1000ES.php&usg=AOvVaw387b7VNKmT3QST6NhTQ23n

Just bought 2 new cd's, one RB and one SACD. Player reads SACD perfectly and will not read RB at all. Any ideas?

I seem to recall extending the use of my 333ES players by using one of those. But at some point both of my 333ES players would almost never read a redbook CD. I don't use any players these days I have everything put on the server and run it through a little DAC. Well except my SACD collection... mopardave
Havent tried that. Do ya think i could pull the cover and get at the lazer with a Q tip?
Marvel
That might be tricky... I did a maintenance/repair class on CD player, but that was 25+ years ago. Funny it would read SACDs and not CDs. Sounds like the lens may be dirty, but looking at the service manual (pretty sparse...), it looks like there is a single lense pickup system for it, but all CD players have an auto focus for the lense. They will try x number of times before they error our.. This might lead one to think it is the laser diode for the CD. There is the manual I found if you want to give it a shot, but it's 26mb so I can't post it.e

I would have to completely disassemble the unit to get in there. Put it back together and it is playing RB again. Not knowing how long this will last i ordered a CD cleaner. See how that does. Thanks guys.

Marvel
You could have just run it through the car wash... Glad it is working. I still use a JVC player I got in '88. Bruce
