thebes
It's cheap, but it 's not as simple as it looks,. Ultimately you may decide to just go and spend the money on the multi-cap, or find someplace under the case to hide the caps, or simply do the old re-stuffing thingy. Anyways, I think this is creative and fun and appeals to the tinkerer in me. Start at about 3:50 into the video:
tube fanatic
Thanks for posting that Marty! It’s an excellent method, and one which I have never used. It certainly makes things easier if there’s little room under the chassis for locating replacements. Maynard
thebes
Yes its a nifty trick. But only if there's a circular hole, not the very common diamond shaped one, which would require you to drill out the chassis. Also a cable tie would probably work just as well for keeping the caps together rather than having to source a suitably sized shrink wrap. seti
I've done this three times now. I've also started using vector cans but they are rare so I use on special projects only.
Don Richard
You could also mount and solder the under chassis components to an octal socket and wire the caps to an octal plug, making changing caps a plug in operation. Could also do this on new builds.
Davecv41
Watching it was cringe worthy. The repair is functional, but far from cosmetic. I dig out the guts of the old caps when possible, and restuff them with new parts. YMMV

I also dig these tube socket turrets.
