sunburnwilly
I would give this a shot . But it's easy enough to make bacon jam . It's basically pureed bacon , brown sugar and vinegar . Great condiment for a burger .

BigStewMan
I remember all of those except Burger Chef.
JohnJ
We had Shoneys here instead of Sambos... the signs were similar. Burger Chef before mc ds. No Kenny Rodgers but Holly Farms fried chicken with their taters were great! First time I'd seen taters and that was right after I started driving, best friend worked there and I would give him a ride home after work for all the food he would carry out... High metabolism and activity then kept me from getting porky!
BigStewMan
Back in my teens, after a long night of partying, we'd hit the Jack in the Box because it was one of the few places that was open 24-hours. We'd each get two Jumbo Jack Meals -- quite a good post-midnight snack and probably close to 2000 calories right before going to bed. Ah, to be young and invincible -- and none of us were overweight, probably because we never sat home and watched television, always playing sports or out on the go doing something.
JohnJ
And now.... Doesn't really fit the title for the thread but think about this. Yes we can buy "bread". I haven't made it at home ever, but the "bread" at the stores doesn't fit the definition of what I know it is supposed to be. Polit-bureau decreed we couldn't control our own usage of dietary fats so they or was it the queen destroyed all the shortening (mad-faced smiley) It was great, full of texture fluffy or hard great flavor that you could put almost anything on and no da*n bird seeds on the whole wheat then either! Made sausage and eggs for supper, just one meal today that's it except these from a darn box that are really good and very much like their namesake. Red Lobster's cheddar biscuits!! They are too crumbly but man they're good!
