RP-8000F No Sound

Good morning. I connected my RP 8000s to my Yamaha RX-V6A, along with my RP-404C in my RP-502S surrounds. Everything works except for the RP-8000s. I had JBL‘s hooked up as my main speakers before and replaced them with the 8000s, but I’m getting no sound when I run a test tone.  The receiver will not see the speakers at all. I’m at a loss.

Double check your cables and tighen all connections. Were the RP 8000 new or used?

I bought the speakers new. The receiver powers up normally and the other speakers emit sound during the tone test. For some reason, the receiver isn’t seeing the 8000s. I started with all new speaker wire and banana plugs. While troubleshooting, I swapped out the new speaker wire to the 8000’s, with old speaker wire that I have used in the past. And no banana plugs. Still nothing.

 

I feel that it must have something to do with the set up of the receiver, although the menu choices are so simple that there doesn’t seem to be a lot of avenues to explore.

 

I must be missing something.

Factory reset the receiver? Maybe try another channel? Are all 4 lugs tight on the RP 8000s?

Lugs are tight. I also thought about swapping the speakers to different channels-thanks for adding to that thought. I’ll try that and report back.

Plug other speakers into the same wires that you were running to the 8000s and see if those speakers are actually working or not, That way you can be sure that the problem is not with the speakers themselves

Haha; actually easier to connect the 8000's to wires that were powering other speakers. If "nothing," (unlikely) then your speakers are bad. If "sound," you have an AVR problem - either in the mode settings or your AVR has a problem

So it’s definitely something to do with the AVR. I switched the speakers around and the 8000s do work.

Yes, it does NOT send a signal to the (original position) 8000's. Pull up the manual and find the configuration settings. Should be set to your system, such as 4.1, 5.1, etc. After selecting, check test tones to the individual speakers. Note, might be something as simple as the speakers are "off" or "muted." Let us know

Haha; make sure the 8000's are indeed connected to the AVR   Sure we have all made mistakes like that

there is 0 issues with the AVR since the JBL speakers work ------plus the JBL speakers were working  on the same wires , then if your connections are correctly installed  , the RP -8000F must also work ..............here's the User Manual for the RP-8000F

Please allow me to go into more detail about what lead up to his and where I’m at now.

 

Yamaha was last used in a 5.1 setup last July.  At that time it was connected to my JBLs (which I no longer have).  It’s been in storage from then until now.  In the meantime, I purchased the Klipsch speakers, and in particular the 8000s because they can be bi-amped (my Yamaha allows for this).

 

A few days ago, I pulled the Yamaha out of storage and connected all the new Klipsch speakers (R,C,L,RR, LR) with new 14 gauge wire and banana plugs.  I followed the instruction manual and wired the speakers for bi-amping.  The unit was off and not connected to power.  I then attempted to run the Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO).  After 14 seconds and no sound emitted, I got the following message:  “E1:No Front SP” (no front speakers detected) to which the listed solution was “Exit YPAO, turn off the unit, and then check the speaker connections.”  I assumed it had something to do with the attempt at bi-amping, put the jumpers back on the speakers and removed the second set of speaker wires from the equation.  I again got the same error from YPAO.  However, I could hear speaker emissions when running a test tone, although none from the front channel.

 

After continuing to play around with it with no success, I posted here.  After reading all the suggestions and continuing to investigate, I reset the receiver, and double checked the firmware.  In order to be sure that the speakers weren’t the issue, I switched the front channel 8000s with the surround channel 502s.  I then ran a test tone and found that the 8000s on the surround channel were now emitting sound.  At that point I knew that the speakers weren’t necessarily the issue.  I couldn’t find anything in the manual about fuses, nor are there any accessible fuses in the back that I could see.

 

I then took a multi-meter and tested the continuity of all eight speaker wires for the front channel bi-amp set up.  They all are good.  I set everything back up for bi-amping and tried running YPAO again.  Still can’t detect the front channel speakers.  (I did choose the Bi-Amp option in the setup menu.)  I have a Sony receiver in storage that I plan to set up tomorrow just to confirm that all the speakers work as they are supposed to.  Other than that, I’m not sure how to proceed.

how about , doing 2 tests ----replace the speaker cables for the RP-8000F  ,  we need to make sure the cables you are using are good  ,and   re-check for sound -

2)- plug the RP-8000F in  Stereo mode  only , do they work  ?........be careful to use speaker wiring that is know to be functional  .

Well; sounds like you did everything correct, beyond the simple recommendations we gave you.   Glad you have an extra Sony AVR to double check.  

Last resort ... and just guessing here ... is go back to the single amp setup and try again. Good luck

Didn't see if reposted in your first thread so responding here.

If working correctly, the Sony should point again to Yamaha having a problem. Sort of eliminating the rest of system.

 

Is your Yamaha under any warranty?
