la chapelle
Hello everyone, I'm new here. I have just acquired Heresy 1 from 1981 and I am looking for a second-hand amplifier (less than 400 $). Mainly for listening to vinyl (2 MK2s and a rotary mixer) and streaming. I'm a bit lost in the offer and I'm waiting for your valuable specialist advice. All the best and sorry for my English (I'm French …) Pierre
OO1
Yamaha A-S301 would be the bare minimum https://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio_visual/hifi_components/a-s301/index.html
Bubo
They sound great with any quality amplifier I too love Yamaha' which is why I have so many of them Find a used Yamaha surround 5.1 amplifier that supports pure direct Good ones sell for as little as $100 US Be sure to get a working remote control You don't need HDMI, if it has it fine. Try to get 10 years old or less Look at the specs, THD, SN Watts is unimportant, 100 WPC on the front is more than enough Amp also has a good built in DAC The amp will also support a sub woofer, and may have room correction
Peter P.
You're French; you should be paying attention to Le Tour, not thinking about amps! 😀 Like Bubo said; anything will work; there's no need to dive into the weeds regarding which amp to pair them to. I too, use Yamaha amps because they are relatively inexpensive for the power and features they provide. You can probably pick up an used integrated amp of any brand on craigslist or facebook marketplace as well. I'm currently using a 60 watt/channel amp and it's plenty for my Heresies.
Dave1291
Yammers have survived the test of time imo. IF you buy used make darn sure things work before you take it home. I just picked up a McIntosh 4100 receiver and tied it into my old 81 Heresy and it sounds stellar. I run tubes and kinda missed that old solid state sound. Since you want TV, etc I'd just buy something new and suck it up. Yamaha's sound great for the money! Stay safe and welcome to the Forum.

DizRotus
Welcome to the forum Pierre. Not knowing the new and used markets where you are makes it difficult to make specific recommendations. That said, I would agree with the several Yamaha recommendations. I suggest buying the best new Yamaha within your budget, or buy the best nearly new unit you can afford. DIY is in my DNA. MY HIPs (Heresy Industrial Ported) have been given the Claude @ClaudeJ1 “Super” treatment. They are driven by a DIY class D chip amp, and four DIY tapped horn subwoofers are powered by a pair of class D amps. For TV watching I purchased an “open box” Yamaha AVR to power a 5.1 system using five DIY Fostex FE103 bass reflex single drivers. The wife and I need the center channel to get the dialogue from movies and Limey detective mysteries. I gave up trying to make one system do music and movies. We don’t need the subs for movie explosions. To complicate things, serious 2-channel music is delivered exclusively in balanced mode to the amps by one of several Pono players. For me, switching gear in and out to go from 2-channel to 5.1 was too much trouble. YMMV The point of this long tale is that the basic “open box” 5.1 Yamaha AVR purchased from Parts Express (PE) is more than adequate for my purposes. The music in the movies and TV shows sounds very good from the Fostex speakers. Occasionally we listen to Spotify through the TV system with good results. The first AVR received from PE produced nothing from the center channel. After systematically confirming the AVR as the problem, rather than the speaker or connections, I called PE. Naturally, the PE tech wanted to confirm my diagnostic process before sending a replacement AVR. He asked about the speakers being used. I explained they are DIY Fostex FE103 bass reflex. He said those are nice speakers, and asked, “Why are you using a ‘shitty’ AVR with such nice speakers?” I tell you all this to reassure you that even a basic “shitty” Yamaha AVR is more than up to the task if you get beyond audiophool snobbery. FYI Claude is French Canadian. You and he can communicate without Google translator.

I heard it a few times. The IM distortion will always be low if you don't play too loud. Super Heresy's with subs will play loud, like all Heritage Klipsch (with or without modifications).
Dave1291
That system @DizRotus sounded fantastic to me. Left me shaking my head as to just how he did all that. Talk about bang for the buck? The full out of body massage after was pretty darn incredible too. hahaha

YMMV When I met with the President of PONO in 2015, I told him his product was a good idea, except I told him that if he charged too much for the "HiRez" music it would NOT work out. Obviously he didn't listen.
