Marvel
What effect does the 3x13 compression slot cause in the LS design? Extend the high end?
Deang
"The 3x13" baffle board slot is a consequence of the k33e woofer. Decreasing the slot area increases the shunt capacitance at the throat making the slot/throat combination have more effect as a low pass filter. If a "regular" woofer is used the 6x13" slot is needed. The slot attenuates the upper end output ..." -John Warren
hanksjim1
@BeFuddledinMn had a great write up on the slot differences and the woofers years ago (albeit with Klipschorn bass bins):
Islander
As I understand it, the narrow slot increases the speed of the air movement caused by the woofer, making it act like a compression driver. This makes it easier to have a consistent sound between the woofer and the squawker.
Schu
There were several sizes weren't there?
Marvel
@deangthanks Dean. The Peavey FH-1 has a 5.125 inch slot (I think... drawings here somewhere). May just be their crummy woofer but IIRC, it will do 500 hz without much trouble.
