Speakerlab K's need a good home

I don't know whether this is kosher since they are not technically Klipsch products, but my wife and I are downsizing and there is no room in the new house for my Speakerlab K's.

For those of you who don't know, Speakerlab used to sell a copy of the Klipsch horns.  You could buy a fully assembled speaker, a kit, or just the speakers, electronics and a cutting plan.  Around 1980 I bought and assembled the kit.  A few years later, when I set up my first home theater system, I custom built a center channel with matching walnut, and the same mid-range and tweeter used by the K's.  Gil McDermott who has been a member of this forum for years, and who is also my brother-in-law, built a custom crossover for it. They are in great shape and sound great.  I love them and am sorry to see them go.  At least I am getting Klipsch home theater speakers for the ceiling in the new house.

For $500 plus shipping, someone can have all three.  I also have an extra pair of the 15" woofers used in the K's that I will throw in.  I had thoughts of building my own subwoofers for a 7.2 system, but didn't have enough time an opted to buy subwoofer instead.  I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area so anyone nearby would be welcome to pick them up and save the shipping.

@JoeR Can you post a picture of the back side showing which drivers are in the top section? Also maybe a pic of the woofers.  I'm about 6 hours away in central AR but I've made that drive many times. If easier on the pics due to the size limitation here, email them to me at avguytx at yahoo dot com.

Gil is doing much better.  He still has problems with his left arm but he can walk and they are evaluating him to see if he could transfer to an assisted living facility from the nursing home.  He desperately wants to get out of there.  His intellect seems to be pretty intact and he is currently taking an online course from MIT.  He emails regularly and has a cell phone.  If you want to contact him directly his cell is 773-274-7705 and his email is w.f.mcdermott@gmail.com.

Beautiful job on your SKs!

And, ... Great news about Gil!  I hear from him periodically, randomly.  I'm glad to get the new phone.  I'll call.  He had asked me to call, but I could not get an updated number when one of the old ones quit working.

Hey Joe,

Thanks for all you are doing for Gil. Was sad to hear that the friend that was helping him out passed away suddenly.

As far as I’m aware we have never excluded Speaker Lab (or Shinall) from garage sale section so a posting for these speakers would be fine, especially since you have listed them as Speakelab speakers.

A few months ago someone listed “Klipschorns” in the title and then in the description it mentioned they were made by a master wood worker in Houston. In that case I edited the title to “Homemade” but let the ad stand.

The only thing we don’t allow is people to sell new home built DIY Klipsch copies on here (“clones”).
