RJF
Does anyone have any info or pictures of the new K401 "Composite" Horn Lens? I was wondering how it compares to the old K400. I have been out of the "Horn Building" mode since the mid 80's and haven't seen any of Klipsch's new "stuff". Thanks, RJF
j-malotky
RJF The dimentions are the same. The only difference is the material. The K401 is naturally dampened. JM
BillyRyan
This new K401 sounds interesting. Has anyone done a K400/K401 comparison? Yet another tweak option for the pursuit of perfect midrange...
BillyRyan
I e-mailed Klipsch for price and infomation about the new material used in the K401. Perhaps someone with an extra hundred bucks can do a comparison. Here's the reply: Your Horn part number is 130017 K-401 Horn at a cost of $49.91 each and are available for purchase. I'm not sure if this is the current material or not! You might want to contact our technical dept. at 800-554-7724 option 2 and one of the guys will be able to tell you more about the horn! If you would like to order the horn contact us at 800-554-7724 option 3 for parts and either Russ or myself will place the order for you. JohnA
That's somebody's 2003 K-horns from the odds and mods Forum.
Q-Man
Check again with Klipsch on the price of the 401 horn. I think someone there gave you some bad information. I bought a pair from them a couple of years ago and they were more like $200.00 each.
BillyRyan
How did they sound, compared to the K400?
Deang
Did anyone ever get a confirmation on the price? So Q, what did you think about difference -- you've obviously heard both.
michael hurd
Don't forget - Dale walker just picked up a set of 89 khorns with the k401 lenses, you could message or e-mail him to find out more info.
Q-Man
Yes I have both and did convert one of my pair of LaScalas to the 401. It's been a while since I did an A/B with them, but if I remember correctly the 401 has less ringing which makes it a little smother or easier to listen to. I think the ribs stiffen up the horn. Then I was selling some of my stuff to someone on this forum and told him he could have the 400 or the 401 for the same price. He took the 400, maybe he knows something that I don't. Tony Reed
Klipsch lowered the price of the K401 (big time). They are $49.91 each. I just purchased 4 of them. Tony

jhawk92
Dean- I bought two of them as well, same $49 and change price each. I haven't put them in yet, as I have other K-horn work to do first. The key would be to A/B them without dynamat on the 400. Once I get around to it, how hard will it be to retrofit the 401 horns into my '68s? Q-Man
That is why the 401 is a little better, you don't have to do anything to it.
jhawk92
Q- I may try it out then, once I get them snugged into the corners with insulation and I appreciate that tweak. Is it hard to disassemble the guts and swap out the horns?
