K401 Horn Lens

Does anyone have any info or pictures of the new K401 "Composite" Horn Lens? I was wondering how it compares to the old K400. I have been out of the "Horn Building" mode since the mid 80's and haven't seen any of Klipsch's new "stuff".

Thanks,

RJF

I e-mailed Klipsch for price and infomation about the new material used in the K401. Perhaps someone with an extra hundred bucks can do a comparison. Here's the reply:

Your Horn part number is 130017 K-401 Horn at a

cost of $49.91 each and are available for

purchase. I'm not sure if this is the current

material or not! You might want to contact our

technical dept. at 800-554-7724 option 2 and one

of the guys will be able to tell you more about

the horn! If you would like to order the horn

contact us at 800-554-7724 option 3 for parts and

either Russ or myself will place the order for

you.

Yes I have both and did convert one of my pair of LaScalas to the 401. It's been a while since I did an A/B with them, but if I remember correctly the 401

has less ringing which makes it a little smother or easier to listen to. I think the ribs stiffen up the horn.

Then I was selling some of my stuff to someone on this forum and told him he could have the 400 or the 401 for the same price. He took the 400, maybe he knows something that I don't.

Dean-

I bought two of them as well, same $49 and change price each. I haven't put them in yet, as I have other K-horn work to do first. The key would be to A/B them without dynamat on the 400.

Once I get around to it, how hard will it be to retrofit the 401 horns into my '68s?
