My internet complaint isn't related to any particular action on this BBS, although similar acts do occur here on rare occasion......

The phenomena of "hiding behind a screenname because no one knows who you are" syndrome. This is often manifested in such comments as "your favorite speakers/CD player/rock band/politics/sports team/religion/opinion SUX".

It's OK to disagree, but I find (especially on unmoderated newsgroups) that people will say just about anything when the reader doesn't know who you really are. IOW, comments are made that one would only make by being faceless behind a computer screen. There are numerous groups that apply to my interest, but are so full of junk completely unrelated to the subject at hand, and so full of garbage, that spending any time on such boards/groups is a complete waste of time (see the rec.music.phish newsgroup on usenet for a prime example).

As to m00n's comments regarding pornography:

While the suggestion of placing porn related stuff on a .xxx domain sounds like a noble persuit, who decides what porn really is? Some is obvious, but if you ask different people what is and is not porn, you will get different answers.

Attempts to control/filter internet content is a very slippery slope. While the level of raciness in porn might not be in question for most who don't use it at all, what about other content? What if the only news sources on US ISP's were from the US? What if your favorite band attracts the attention of those in control of the internet? The same "morality" issues will come to the fore regarding internet control as is in place at our local Wal-Mart regarding music and movie titles - the ISP will seek to have that squeaky clean image and seek to restrict, or not make certain content available. The first time my ISP attempts to do this - they are fired.

The only two issues that I would like to see regulated are spam and user privacy issues. Otherwise, leave it alone.

Flash ads that peg my Athlon 1600+ XP and lock up my browser...and stupid sites with bad review writers that have started charging ridiculous fees to view things...and still show these damn CPU hog flash ads...

OK, I'm OK...IGN...OK

My major pet pieve... websites with huge, overwrought, time consuming FLash presentations on the home page that provide no useful information, but which you can't bypass, or are afraid to bypass for fear that you might miss something...

For an excellent example of this, check out the Pacific Seafood website. They added the "Skip Intro>>" button recently - before that, you had no option other than sitting and waiting while the Flash loaded, or just giving up and going somewhere else.

I don't want trouble from the mods. On some of my other forums, ****, sh1t, danm, krap, etc. all go, but I try to keep it down a bit in this forum. I swear often in real life, but on some forums, I tone it down.

You swear a lot in real life?? Really?Wow. I want to be you. P.S: Since you deserve a cookie for swearing a lot I've actually attached one for you.

But anyways according to the "That's gay and you're stupid theory", that really is gay and you arent stupid.

"if you think this is bad, go hit some online game forums."

Many gaming forums shelter the garbage, compost and rejects who have nothing smart to say.Just agressive individuals who probably have trouble looking in the mirror, these mental weaklings take out their frustrations online.

I dont even bother posting, even if sometimes they are asking for a few steel reinforced boots to the facial region.
