I know this is way off, but does anyone know how to eliminate the f*ckin pop ups. There really beginning to bust my balls big time.

I tried a free download from CNet, Pop Up Stoppers. Worked a bit, but seems to be getting worse again.

Is there a file planted in my computer that calls these little b*stards in? Does anyone know how to eliminate this problem without adding software that seems to create other problems?

SpyBot blows!!!

It's just another "ad adder on" in the form of an ad eliminator program. May I suggest you try ADAWARE which you can also download from www.cnet.com

I just got the new version(6.0) and it does the job, at least on my computer. I had SpyBot before that and, while it seemed to work for the first week, it just got worse after time.

I hated popups, especially the newer flavor that look a bit like Windows system messages. Insideous!

I decided to download and give Netscape 7.1 a try. Since their 7.01 version, they incorporated a feature/setting which allows the user to block pop up windows. Works like a charm, and I rarely, if ever, get pop ups anymore.

rf3iicrazy:

What operating system and which version of it are you using. If windows, which is more than likely what your running, do this:

1st. disable the instant messenger feature.

2nd. download spybot, execute the search and destroy program and you will more than likely be rid of those pesky little gremlins.

Here's the site: http://spybot.eon.net.au/index.php?lang=en&page=download

When your done with spybot, execute the uninstall feature and it will remove it's self completely and cleanly. No garbage will be left in the registry. It's a good clean program.

I am using two different products and ELIMINATED ALL pop-ups from my system.

STOPzilla! is great for pop-ups and ApplyIP stopped the IP messages.

Try searching from your address bar or from google for "pop-up blocker" and "IP blocker". You'll get a million hits on both, but these two have worked great for me.

And like NOSValves said...Stay off the porn sites!3.gif

Hi,

The best way to disable popups is to use a non-IE browser. I use Mozilla Firebird - a pretty awesome browser with lotsa features including popup blocking, tabbed browsing (this allows u to browse multiple sites in a single window), etc. And, it's free.

And yeah, disable the messaging feature, as mentioned by Klipschfoot.

Here's the link to Firebird:

Also, here's a link explaining why u shud be using it:

Enjoy.

yes, kill the messenger service as given above. What I never figured out was how it got turned on to begin with. I was using Sprint Broadband Direct, a wireless high speed connection, never saw one of those messenger popups. Moved to a regular cable modem connection after moving to a different neighborhood, started getting them instantly. Maybe Sprint had the stuff blocked at their routers.

Use mozilla, AKA Netscape. I'm using mozilla 1.3.1, never see a popup.

I used spybot along the lines given above, install, search and destroy, uninstall. Clean deal AFAIK. Also used ad-aware a year or so ago.
