NOSValves
Just the same old stuff, I tell you one thing I don't think the 222C and 222D or 299C or the 299D suck ! I think there all good amps along with many others ! In fact the designer of all these amps said his favorites were the 299A and B in the VTV artical about them ! Until I have customer feedback that tells me amps done by me are being bettered by anything less then thousands of dollars in today market then I will have to see proof of this with my own eyes on the scope. I guess I will have to try the filter bypass next chance I get ! I will post the results. It will surpise me if the difference is major if any at all. I think the Iron is a major contributing factor. At least the EICO proves it on that model running the Power amp alone which rules out the entire front end which in fact made matters worse the tranformers started ringing ! At this point I think it will be more than just cutting out a few parts to get rid of the filters. I think it will end up changing the voicing of the amp where more messing will be required to fix what was just screwed up. Craig
3dzapper
Ryan, Where are these filters you speek of in the schematic? There seem to be a number of signal shaping RC networks in the "AF amp"/ scratch/ rumble circuits in the schematic of the 299B I am looking at. You've got me a little confused here. Of course thats not hard to do. Rick
NOSValves
There all before the signal enters the 12AX7 preamp stage Pin 7 to be exact. Craig
Clipped and Shorn
What modifications would each of you do to a stock 299 to make it the best it could be today? c7s
mike stehr
Clipped, For a 7591 based Scottie, you just throw everything away and use the OPT's for 2A3 push-pull. "I find that the paraphase is a high loss circuit" Is this in general, or does this just apply to integrated Scott tube amplifiers using paraphase? NOSValves
Clipped, Ryan's all the sudden constant bantering over these filters has forced me to bug my good buddy Mark for clarity on what might work with bypassing them. I'm going to try to sneak enough time in this weekend to mess with these filters on the 222B of my own. I don't want to be hacking on customers gear for testing out theories if you know what I mean. I will do a complete report with photos of the differences gained or lost on the scope and to my ears . Craig
mark1101
Are the high and low filters you guys are talking about in addition to the switch filters (rumble and scratch) on the face of the unit that the user can control? Do the switch filters further cut off what is already filtered?
NOSValves
Yup Mark they are in addition the switched filters were talking about built in filters that are always on. Don't get to caught up in it. Let me see if there is anything there to gain. I will be surprised if there is but never say never ! I have the schematic all reworked with Mark Deneens help so hopefully this weekend I can find time to try it out. Craig
Clipped and Shorn
I will be interested to hear about and possibly see the results. tnx. c7s
mark1101
Thanks for the info. It's what I thought. Craig, I am really interested in this. It makes sense that an improvement may be possible. Please let us know what you see and hear. I expect this would be an easy change to make. Thanks

garymd
Craig, I will also be very interested in your findings. It's hard to believe they could have such a significant impact since these babies sound so good as is. We'll all be eagerly waiting to hear back. Piranha
I see a 222D for auction right now. What are the differences betwen the 222's and the 229's? Which would the Forum members recommend as the better of the two and why?
Tom Mobley
if you haven't found this already, go here and look around. Great HH Scott site. Tom
k730292
Greetings; I'm a new member on this Forum, and an owner of a Scott 222-D. I'm looking for direction as where to get replacement parts, spccifically knob parts. Sorry to jump in; I'm just looking for leads. Timmikid
Welcome K! There's plenty of info here on the forum, but I suggest you start your own thread with the question, because you just plunged into a soulless swimmingparty years after the river went dry... Look at the date of the last post. Greetings, Tim.
