KAiN64,

Congrats. I see this is your decision. Does this mean you don't have the hardware yet?

No matter. You'll like the set up, very much.

I got my first enlightenment just by setting up the TV audio output to my stereo system. It was not "Home Theater" yet made a big improvement.

I recently a problem where my main Sony TV failed. Before taking it out to the dumpster I took it apart to look at the speakers. Gee wizz, they are very small; similar to what is found in a computer set up.

This is not your situation. But let me comment. If anyone out there wants to get into "Home Theater" the first thing they should do is to find the output plugs from the TV or VCR and hook them up to whatever stereo system they have. Big improvement. The best use of equipment on hand.

Kain64,sounds(hehe)good to me.The only suggestions I could offer you,in case you haven't purchased yet,would

be to check out the Denon 2801(or better yet the 2802 next month)receiver and a Velodyne or Paradigm sub.I'm a Sony type guy,and the 555ES is a good one,but the Denon may be a better receiver for use with the Reference speakers.Either way you'll have a killer set-up.Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for the replies. Smile.gif

But since I live in Dubai, I am limited to options. I can only buy things that are available in Dubai and not of the internet because most websites do not ship worldwide.

Anyway, I think the setup should serve me fine. cwm16.gif

By the way, I will NEED a receiver, right? My DVD player will only output the sound to the receiver and the receiver will send out the signal to the speakers, right?

Kain - check out this thread. It may add some insight. I'm still a little confused about the perfect choice, Progressive Scan or not? I have come to the conclusion that Progressive Scan DVD players will only be of any benifit if you have a HDTV, otherwise the additional cost of Progressive Scan is basically a waste.

Please guys, comment if I am totally on the "wrong page" cause I too also plan on DVD purchase soon (within the next 2 weeks). Also looking at Sony Wega KV27FS13 (size reasons over anything bigger). The tv is $600 vs. HGTV that are $2000+ and further I do not have the room for one of those big boys.

Sony has several single disk non progressive scan players in the range of $225 to $350 depending on the features you want. There are several other brands out there with similar prices and specs.

Maybe this will help, hopefully not further confuse Confused.gif:

KAiN64,according to the TV specs it has COMPONENT VIDEO

input,so you would wire your progressive scan DVD players COMPONENT VIDEO output to the television for a superior picture.

The set-up will be killer!
