eagisler
I have a pair of Heresy speakers and would like to incorporate them into a Home Theater surround system. Should I do this? If so, what would be a recommendation for complimentary speakers (e.g rear, middle and sub)?
Kevin S
I have three Heresy's in the front, with RS-3 surrounds and HSU VTF-2 Subs that I am quite happy with (for now!). ------------------ L/C/R: Klipsch Heresy II Surround: Klipsch RS-3 Subwoofers: 2 HSU-VTF-2 Pre/Pro/Tuner: McIntosh MX-132 AMP: McIntosh MC-7205 DVD: McIntosh MVP-831 CD Transport: Pioneer PD-F908 100 Disc Changer Turntable: Denon DP-72L Cassette: Nakamichi BX-1 T.V. : Mitsubishi 55905 SAT/HDTV: RCA DTC-100 Surge Protector: Monster Power HTS-5000
Malcolm
I have five Heresys and a sub. For best results, the Heresys should be of similar vintage for proper timbre match, i.e. same tweeters and squawkers. In other words, all early to mid Heresys with K77 and K55V, all later Heresys with the mud tweeter (minor high end output improvement which you may or may not be able to hear), all very last Heresys with the K53 midrange (very noticeable timbre change from earlier Heresys), or all Heresy IIs. Although a number of different woofers were used in the Heresys during the line's life, I cannot hear a significant difference in bass between those built in the 60s, 70s or 80s. The various versions of the K22 all appear to have been due to cost or availability of the woofer. Alternatives for the center channel would be an Academy or KV4 if you can find one. I think these are the only center channel speakers that will be a close match for the Heritage line. The sub is really a matter of personal taste. See the powered subwoofer thread archives for everything you ever wanted to know and more. I have a Decware WO32 driven by a 300 watt monoblock amp. Malcolm
The KLF-C7 may also work as a center channel.
ShapeShifter
I too agree that Heresys front, center & rear of the same or close vintage will be a great match. An Academy Center is also a good match, but hard to find and is usually very costly. Have not heard the KV4, but I have used a KG2.2V which did a reasonably good job with two Heresy & Cornwall fronts. I'm using an Academy now and it performs exceptionally well. Klipsch has a recent chart that shows their new Ref center and surrounds can also be used with Heritage setups. As to subs, there are a lot of good choices, which makes for a more difficult decision. I'm using an SVS 20-39cs and a KSW 12. The best to ya...Wes This message has been edited by ShapeShifter on 09-20-2001 at 06:00 PM
speedbump
If you already have the Heresy, buy more of them. I have an Academy center because I run Chorus mains, but for the same price or less than the Academy, you could put a Heresy in the middle. There IS the the size difference, but if you have room for the KLF-C7 or Academy up there, a Heresy could probably fit as well 5 or 6 Heresy speakers would make a wonderful HT setup for a very reasonable cash output (you could probably get the other two pairs for less than a grand!!). Throw in a good sub and you are in business for 6.1 surround. willjam
I'm using Heresys as mains coupled with a RC-3 center KSP-S6 for rears and a M&K VX-7 sub. I have no fault with this arrangement. My Heresys are 1972 vintage. They sound terrific particularly in my rather small room. Frzninvt
I am using Heresy II's as my Rears with my Belle's up Front. The KV-4 Center blends in very well with them. I also run a pair of ESS Mini's as additional rears and a Pair of LWE-I's as additional mains. The Heresy's will work well as Mains, Center, or Rears a subwoofer would really be a welcome addition. ------------------ Sony KP-43T70 43" Television Denon AVR 3300 A/V Receiver (ALF/ARF) LWE-I's w/Motion Feedback (Walnut) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (LF/RF) (Belle's - Oak Clear/Cane) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (RR/ARR/LR/ALR) (Heresy II's (Walnut/Cane) & ESS Mini Monitors (Walnut) DBX MPA-150 Mono Split Spectrum Amplifier © (KV-4 - Black) Klipsch KSW-15 Powered Subwoofer (2) Nakamichi DVD-10 DVD/LCD/CD Player Nakamichi MB-10 Music Bank CD Changer Technics SL-DL5 DD Linear Tracking Turntable JVC HR-S7500U SVHS Video Cassette Recorder RCA DRD-303RA Satellite Receiver VC3 Deluxe Video Clarifier DBX 400XG Program Route Selector DBX 120X-DS Subharmonic Synthesizer/Electronic Crossover DBX 3BX-DS 3-Band Dynamic Range Controller (2) (1-LC) (1-RC) DBX 14/10 14-Band Computerized Equalizer/RTA Analyzer/SPL Meter Panamax 1000+ Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Sega Dreamcast w/3 Controllers & VMU's/S-Video Output Bedroom Yamaha RX-900U Receiver Panasonic DVD-A120U DVD/CD Player Sony SLV-740HF Hi-Fi VCR BBE - ARS Audio Recovery System DBX 2015G 15 Band/Channel Equalizer A/D/S L300E Mini Speakers GE 20" Television
