There are about 10-15 highrise condo/timeshare projects underway on or around the strip with many more around town. Even "the Donald" is getting in on the action. I'm in construction and wish I would have moved here ten years ago. But, the outlook for the next ten years is very good. You are right, there really is something for everyone. Well I didn't look up the bunny ranch or engage in any behavior I'd have to worry about catching anything from, and I still had a great time. You can go a couple of blocks off the main street in many towns and find the homeless and crack heads. Las Vegas didn't invent that. Maybe it was built by losers, but the majority of money now I believe comes from wide eyed tourists like myself who just can't get over the the size and scope of the place. One more thing, there is a difference between a dry heat and a humid climate like FL. I noticed as I walked down the street that yes I was hot and did my fair share of perspiring but it didn't matter how long I was out in the heat there, I never got completely soaked in sweat like I do in just a few minutes here in the Tampa Bay area. I also noticed that a breeze doesn't seem to do you much good there, it's like someone turning a blow dryer on. If a person wants to make a living at it, they would have to devote their full time to study handicaps, spreads and statistics. The casino certinley keeps up with the numbers. A person may go on a "run" and win money, but if he stays there long enough, it WILL swing back to the house. Poker is the only game in a casino where you are not playing against the house. You don't even have to be the best player at the table to win over time. Slots-are for morons. I look at casino gabling much the same way the carnival games are on the runway at any local fair. i.e. fun to play, but not likely to win. Having traveled all over, I can tell you that SteelerFan is correct. Whores, illicit drugs, street people and crime can be found in any metropolitan area. Our violent crime rate is really no worse than many cities. Keep in mind that a percentage of crimes in Vegas are commited by people that don't live here. Not bad for 30 million tourists a year from all over the world IMO. I was meant to hook back South East and spend some time in Vegas, but something came up. Next time I will go there. I'd like to see the Grand Canyon too. Much more quickly. In Fact, I was STUNNED at when I went swimming at the Pool when I was there last summer . . . it was incredible how fast I dried just from evaporation! btw, I too am in construction and 'worked' my wife pretty hard to consider us moving out there . . . Commercial and residential construction are both booming, which brings up everything else with it. After a huge boom, almost doubling property values in 30 months, housing has leveled off somewhat but is still considerably cheaper than California. New residential is going for about 185-200 sq/ft on average. We have a very pro business mayor who loves Martini's and showgirls. Oh, and no State Income Tax! I've lived in several major US cities and Vegas is by far the best. The whole city has a fresh and "brand new" feel to it. Tons of cash comes sliding back across the table. The man takes his winnings and buys the best room in the hotel. He sits the frog down and says; "Frog, I don't know how to repay you. You've won me all this money and I am forever grateful." The frog replies, "Ribbit. Kiss me." The man figures why not, since after all the frog did for him, he deserves it. Anybody who caused trouble risked a one way trip to the desert. Now that the bean counters rule, it is a big theme park where you are always in danger of being acosted by hookers and muggers when you venture out of the casino. It sure is amazing, though.
