Well for all you classic rockers out there. There is a bunch of good stuff coming out. Some of this will be out soon, and some is already out. Not sure which is which, but if like you these bands just do a little search. I've been hearing some on the radio alot lately.

Carlos Santana- He's doing another album with a bunch of artist. It sounds like a good list this time

ACDC- Oh yeah! look for it maybe the beginning of next month

Alice Cooper- Heard one tune it sounded just like old Alice. The guitarist finially used vintage gear. Alice sounds sooooo much better with a guitarist that uses old gear. Fits his voice and time better

Neil Young- I guess his new ones gonna sound alot along the lines of Harvest. You got to like that.

The Rolling Stones- Well another one by these guys. I've heard one tune and it rocked. So hard to believe they can pull it off these days, but it was sweet bluesy rock

Stills and Nash- Not sure about this one but heard about it. Just incase some of you dig these guys. A Neal Young connection

Rober Plant- Well heard a couple and let me tell you AWESOME! I even detected a hint of some mad Zep screaming in this one.

Queen- Maybe live with Paul Rogers not sure, but heard there is something in the works.

Rock on!

Elmore James -- "Shake Your Money Maker - The Fire Sessions" --

Vintage electric blues--

I'm always amazed when I hear this CD. Way back when, blues artists would rarely if ever do an entire 'album'. They would record a song here and there and they'd be released separately as hits, and many times those songs would be similar because they wouldn't be heard together.

Elmore James' collections are filled with songs having that familiar blues lick you've heard a thousand times, only with slight variations. But, he puts everything he's got into each song with powerful soulful vocals and great guitar -- on each and every song--

"Fire Sessions " has great full sound, too--

Sticking with PROG, (is there anything else?) I HIGHLY recommend IQ-Dark Matter, on CD.

Beautiful soaring music with a hard edge to them.

NEO Progressive, not Genesis, but darn good. If you like The Flower Kings I suspect you'll enjoy this CD

Ron

Also sticking with Prog (exactly, is there anything else? Yup, I

listen to both kinds of music - Prog and Power metal! [;)] ).

Now, here is a friggan pleasent surprise and a real gem! Vox Tempus - In the Eye of Time.

I picked up a copy at ProgPower USA VI. I almost did not buy it,

but when I was looking at the it, this guy, who turned out to be Eric

Ragno, the keyboardist, approached me and said, "I wrote part of

that". After chatting with him a bit, I went and bought the CD,

although completely unfamilier with this band. I'll admit that

part of the reason I bought it was to humour the guy, plus it was only

$10. He did sign the album and I figured that if I did not like

it, at least I got myself a pretty cool souvanier, plus Eric was a

great guy to chat with.

Anyway, after I got home and one of the first things I did was put this

CD in my system, as I was really getting anxious to hear just what this

sounds like!

WOW - Holy $#!+!! The best thing I can come up with is Styx

meets Dream Theater! The vocalist sounds just like Dennis DeYoung

from Styx!

The opening track, "For Every Life", has a nice powerful start

and just flows. I also found out just how good Eric was on those

keyboards - track #4, "Forshadows", is were he really

shines. That track is an instrumental, where he pretty much

solos. And track #8, "Love, Lies, and Treason", is a

13 and a half minute epic. Absolutly beautiful! A lot of

the music as a nice stong bass line, but, fortunatly, not that annoying

hip-hop like "boom boom boom". Just nice, powerful bass that you

could really feel on a good system.

And one other thing that really struck me about this disk. The

recording quality is excellent, moving into phenomenal! This was

a very clean, very well done recoarding. There was no sign of

hiss, compression, or any of that crap. The details of the music

just came pouring out of my speakers - friggan incredible! I am

so forward looking for more great things to come from these guys!

Talking about finding a true gem! I've already listened to this

thing three times. I even e-mail Eric with what I thought and got

a really nice reply from him.

I

downloaded the free song off the Vox Tempus web site, and then ordered

it right away, very nice. Some Styx sound but whats wrong with that?[:D]

I just picked up Ark-Burn the Sun. if you don't know it, you should[ip]

Ron

Hey, nothing wrong with Styx! Hell, I still dig out my dusty old copy of Paradise or Pieces of Eight every once in a while. [H].

I've heard of ARK, but unfortunatly, don't have any of thier albums

(Yet). I still need to go pick up some Symphorce as well.

After ProgPower, I pretty much exhausted my album buying budget, so

that'll have to be put on the queue until I can replenish that. I

still have not gotten around to listening to many of those albums I've

bought at ProgPower. I am just finally getting around to

listening to Stratovarius' new album. I had my doubts, but once I

got into listening to it, I think they got themselves a winner on thier

hands. It is certainly no Visions,

but still quite good. The only gripe I got with that album is

that, unfortunatly, it sounds like dynamic compression had been applied

to it. [8o|] - (Damn it!) The quality was no where near as good as that of that Vox Tempus album.

Alrighty here's what I can't seem to get out of my CD player lately...

Godsmack - The Other Side

This is an EP of 7 songs they took from their past 3 albums and did them acoustically. Godsmack is mostly known as a Hard Rock / Metal band but none of these songs done acoustically would give you that idea. All the tracks are excellent & done very well, the lead singer Sully Erna proves he has the pipes to sing instead of yelling or shouting the lyrics. Even though you may not be a hard rock fan, I challenge you to give this disc a listen!

Tracks:

1 - Running blind

2 - Re-align

3 - Touche

4 - Voices

5 - Keep away

6 - Spiral

7 - Asleep

John Scofield :Thats What I Say.

Scofield and Guests play the music of Ray Charles.

This is one of those CD's that I thought I was buying for one song. I was listening to the local college radio station. They play jazz at night. I heard Mavis Staples singing "I Can't Stop Loving You". I loved her version so I ordered the CD.

Didn't even look who was on the CD just put it in the player, hit play and went into another room:

1. Busted- Scofield and his hot band.

2. What'd I Say-Dr John, Warren Hayes (Allman Bro's and Gov't Mule) John Mayer (yea that John Mayer), Aaron Neville and Mavis Staples all sharing vocal duties.

After this song I went back into my music room picked up the CD and read who was on this CD because the first 2 songs were great.

3.Sticks and Stones

4. I Don't Need No Doctor- John Mayer (John Mayer is so good as long as he's not doing his stuff. I saw him with Buddy Guy and Brad Prasley and he is good).

5. Crying Time

6. I Can't Stop Loving You.

7. Hit The Road Jack

8. Talkin Bout You/I Got A Woman- Dr John

9. Unchain My Heart

10. Let's Go Get Stoned

11. Night Time Is The Right Time- Warren Hayes vocals and Bottle Guitar

12. You Don't Know me- Arron Neville

13. Georgia On My Mind- John Scofield plays accoustic guitar. Just when you think the CD's over the band kicks in.

Very Good CD over all. The band is good and tight plus the different style of vocals make this a nice tribute album.

Joe Schmoe - you really should hear the SACD version of that Godsmack album. And if you like that acoustic/soft style, you might also like Staind's "14 Shades of Grey" DVD-A.

Wow, I didn't even know it was on SACD. But... then I would have to get a cd player that had SACD lol.. I also do have the Staind album & it is good, I will check into the DVD-a on that one.
