I'm going to take my Quartets apart and see how it looks, and then I will see about doing it. I would like to use Monster M-series wire to match what I have running from the amp to the speakers. myram Posted October 2, 2001 Share Posted October 2, 2001 Well after taking the passive radiator off of the Quartet, and removing the crossover unit......I can say that I am not rewiring them. The stock wires are thru the circuit board and soldered on the inside. That means that I would have to un-solder the stock wires and remove them, then drill the opening bigger to accept the new wire, then solder them in place in a very tight space on the underside of the circuit board. I'll stick with the stock wires instead of possibly having to buy new crossover units. Now, is the Academy the same as this.....or is it easier? Yes the academy is the same way, the kg4s are really a challenge, you have to take your time!! Do not drill the board, that will break it!! Even if you thin the wire out , your still going into the 8 or 10 guage wire your using!! i could even wire the quintets if i wanted to!! The cornwalls as you can see, will take alomost any wire!! The academy is together, and i dont really want to take it apart again, dont want to strip screws!! Dont, get nervous, myram, just thin the wire down, to fit the crossover!! In the future, when you add the ALK upgrade, you'll get NOS performance from those Cornwalls! I'm considering upgrading my older Vertical Cornwalls later next year, then switch their older networks to the 85 I's. Maybe do the 85 I's the following year. My main goal is to add a separate Pre/Pro & then tube amps, phased in over time, of course. I really admire your skills & abilities. Got to get to work now. You should do your cornwalls, there not to hard, its the other series that can be complicated!! The heavy wire, as you can see, is stapled to the side of the box, by the crossover!! The cornwalls were the easiest mod, just use braided copper wire, its a lot better than whats in them now, trust me, even if you want to invest in some higher quality wire, thats cool!!! Mike, inside youll find some white wire, really thin, and not even copper, take a look!! If you take the woofer out, that should give you plenty of room inside the box, let me kknow!! Tblasing I have really noticed the efficiency, the bass, and a lot more trebble, after this mod!! The academy here was stock, and i wondered why it was so low, in output, then i remembered that i hotwired the cornwalls, after hotwiring the academy, now its really filling the center, very well, even had to turn it down!! The only speaker that took the wire full size on the crossover are the cornwalls. The crossovers on you KLF 20s, your ganna have to thin the wire down to fit the holes in the crossover. Did you get a chance to see the original wires yet? When you get the original wires out, strip them, there not even copper! Let me know how it goes! I purchased a bunch of Audioquest F-14, which is very pliable and rewired my pair. I noticed what I though was a little better clarity and a decidedly more defined bass region.What did you line the inside of your Cornwalls with?
