wheelman
Seadog excellent choices. Just heard Estranged the other day and forgot how great that tune is. Stranglehold is one of my favorite solos.

Just made me see if I had that tune put in my Rush "Chronicles". Pretty cool I should put some of this in my computer for listening later. I think I like"Working Man" better though. I like the lead lick after it gets going. I'm glad you brought this up. That was kind of my point in posting this thread. Maybe something would pop up I haven't heard in awhile or at all. Plus the different styles people have.
nicholtl
In my drunken Friday night post-party state right now, the 2 favorites that come to mind are (in this order)... 1) Guns n' Roses "November Rain" (Slash's riff) 2) Muse "Hysteria" (Matt Bellamy's riff) yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!! aviserated
Most anything by the "RIFF MASTER" Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath comes to my mind first. There are just too many others to list.

DrWho
One of the things I look for in a guitar riff is that it is musical first. There are so many great guitarists out there that can play some fricken hard riffs, but they are cooler technically rather than musically. (who cares how fast you can flail your fingers if it doesn't sound good?) That said, the biggest reason I love nightwish so much is because everything they do is musical. I can't think of one song without some mega insane guitar riff, but you don't notice it because you are too busying enjoying the musicality of it. There's one I have in my head and I was going to post a sound sample, but alas I can't seem to find it (I think it's on the cd in my car actually). And I have to second Van Halen's - Eruption []

This is a killer DVD --- Malmsteen is hilarious--unintentionally--with his over the top posing, but damn he can shred-- He shows up both Vai and Satch--but they are no slouches
rockbobmel
Hey Bob! Waving from Ashby Ma. Tell me more about Reinhardt... jazz? Hi Steve. No, All Rock, but with a jazz-maybe latinish-bluesy thing. All bands were their own sound back then.
