el jopez
Ok board, I have a question and I'm not sure if it has been posted before. As we all know, Klipsch is re-releasing the Cornwall in a 3rd reincarnation. Klipsch has yet to release pricing to my knowledge for a set. My question to you seasoned vets, and to those especially who went to the last Klipsch Pilgrimage, should I purchase a set of Cornwall II's or wait for the 3rd generation? Is there that much of a difference to hold out, or should I indulge in the Heritage series now? I am pleased with my RF 35s, however, from what I read and hear, the jump between the two will be massive, and (not meaning to start a flame war) more loyal to the Klipsch sound. Advice? Duke Spinner
I seriously doubt the change will be "Massive" i'd say buy the CW 2's, and feel good about your choice the CW 2 is a Great improvement over the first gen. buy a new X-over quick
Jeff Matthews
My thought is about $$$. Can't you pick up CWII's for about $700 in good condition? I heard something like the CWIII's will be around $3,000, but you know rumors... In any case, I seriously doubt the 3's will be 4 times.... 3 times.... even 2 times.... the 2's or 1's in terms of real value for the $$$$. travisc
wait a minute what are the differences between the originals and the II's I know that the drivers are mounted to the motorboard differently, but are there any other cab differences? travisc
they didnt start doing that until the eighties though. right? The Cornwall II has been around since the early seventies. which tweeter did they go to the k-79? that makes it more like a corn 2.

travisc
thanks Wayne I was too lazy to do that myself. So where does this discrepency of the old Cornwall II's with either the II's hand written in red marker or with the labels that have Cornwall II fit into this? They are labeled Cornwall II, very strange. Was it because of the crossover change from type B to B-1?
Frzninvt
Wayne, there was two era's for the Cornwall II's. The original II's were verticals and the designation was used on the label and sometimes not. The reworked Cornwall II from 1985 on, had a different top end that did sound better and extended up to 20Khz. The K-57K and K-79K was a good combination, the K-34E is identical to the K-33E specification wise but the cardboard gasket on it is designed to be top mounted (flush) so it is thinner and has a finished look to it. The crossover network in the 1985 and on CII is a real piece of work, that would be the first thing I replace, then I would add some egg crate foam to the non opposing sides of the internal cabinet as the CII has no internal dampening. colterphoto1
1.5's might be K33, K57 (K601 plastic horn + K52 driver) with B2 and K77 as a set of mine were. Basically a CWII but didn't get the K79 tweeter or the K34 woofer. I'm sure there's other permutations. Anyone have a CW with K55/K600 and a K79 tweeter? The new one is a K107 tweeter, and it's a tractrix Michael
Seadog
diff. Mid 'n tweet, Travis think, " Tractrix " The CWII does not use Tractix horns, but it is a great sounding speaker. The K-79 is a nice tweeter, and the squawker will not have any 9KHz issues.
travisc
love learning all the info guys. Committed to memory. one question about the Cornwall II designation on the older styles. Was this only used when the cabinet wasnt accesable from the 12 screws on the rear. Anyone know why they got a two designation. Seems like they went back and forth for years. There must have been a reason. my 73 verts are designated Cornwall and not Cornwall II. I am sure I have seen pics of Corns from the 60's with the II designation. el jopez
It will be commonly agreed that for a better musical experience, to go with Corns over 35's, right? Joe "a little more reassurance here people"

Joe "a little more reassurance here people" uh, yeah! I only have the I's. Can't comment on the II's. I'm looking at a K79, nice smooth exponential, definitely not a Tractrix, just to clarify. mowntnbkr
So............. What about crossovers. Are they vastly different between the I's and II's? My I's will be here this weekend. Are the II's that much better that I should be on the lookout for k-57k's and K-79's. Also what crossovers are prefered.
customsteve01
Colter,You want to know what Monster Island is?Monsterland was introduced in the 1968 film, Destroy All Monsters. The United Nations had decided to gather all the Earth's giant monsters and corral them into a single location, then keep them there. The Ogasawara Islands were chosen for the project and by 1999, Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Anguirus, Gorosaurus, Kumonga, Minya, Baragon, Manda, and Varan were all present on Monsterland. Various security devices were installed on the island to make sure the kaiju didn't escape. Among the various devices were machines that sprayed different types of mist that Godzilla and Mothra shied away from, as well as a magnetic wall that prevented Rodan from flying away. All was well until the Kilaaks invaded, taking control of the monsters and breaking them free from Monsterland. After the Kilaaks were foiled, the monsters returned to Monsterland and have been living there since. What a cool place to live huh?????[][]Steve
