JBL 2470 - are they superior to the K 55?

Chris,

That driver should really work well in place of the K55. You will have to drill some holes in the Altec flange though. JBL uses a 3-hole mounting scheme. I assume the 2470 uses that. The Altec scheme used 2 studs. I would love to hear how those would sound on my Trachorn. They would mount right up to those with no adaptor.

Selenium AD25-25, under $5 (for JBL/Altec to EV/University).

The CLS 'C' plate, 1" 3-bolt JBL to 1" 2-bolt Altec, price unknown.

This is a 1/8" thick aluminum plate with two studs on the Altec pattern, and three countersunk flatheads for the JBL pattern. A possible DIY project, one could buy the Selenium, turn down the threads, tap for 1/4-20 studs and countersink. If you drill a 511B it will be tight fit (allen headed cap screws).

Al,

Looking forward to what you see (and hear) when you get the Altecs on the Trachorns.

One thing about the Altecs exceeding the K55 in performance... it makes

the K55 look like a huge bang for the buck winner. $242 for a single

diaphragm. Ouch.

The Altecs certainly should sound better.

Ive compaired the 2470 & K55M ...On K401 horn...Both sound simmiler, to close to make a real difference. On a different horn like the Altec 511 or 811 maybe better resolution Could be heard. I also used my favorite Smith DSH horn the JBL 2397 with no improvement . The drivers ar,nt bad but not in the same league with the resolution of Beryllium or aluminum diaphrams.
