lo123
About a year ago I was looking at subs to complement my system (RF35 mains, RC35 center, RS35s if I ever get them mounted....). There were so many posts about problems with the RSW series quality issues, blown fuses, turn-on problems, etc., that I got fairly discouraged and never made a move to buy anything. Are these subs still experiencing these issues, or have owners' experiences been more positive? Thanks for any feedback.
DrWho
wow, I can't say I remember there ever being problems with the RSW line....but I don't remember specifically when they came out either. I've been pretty active on the forums (especially the last year) and have not read of any such issues occuring. For what it's worth, keep in mind that there will be a higher percentage of posts about problems than posts about working speakers. This isn't to say that your concerns aren't valid, but rather an observation that the "problem rate" is around 0.1% or more likely even lower (by the way, this is extremely extremely low). In the worst case scenario, you simply return a faulty unit to the dealer and get a working one in return. Klipsch customer support is very good about such things. So that said, go out and purchase without fear. I think you'll be surprised how much better you system will sound after you get your new sub dialed in []
jacksonbart
I have owned an RSW15 for 2 years and never had a issue.
TheEAR
What problems? I have all three RSW's and never had a single problem with any of them.I push them hard from time to time and so far its all good. Do not mistake this for the LF subs who had real problems(amp issues and air leaks),now I had the LF10 and it failed miserably, returned one presto to the store. lo123
Thanks for the inputs everyone. Recently checked Ultimate Electronics on-line, and they have deleted the RSW-10 and -12 from their web site, leaving only the -15, which is above my price point. Assuming the -10 and -12 have not been discontinued, but have not checked the Klipsh site yet. There are a couple of other smaller companies in the St. Louis area I could try for the -10 and -12 if they carry them. Since my sub locations in a family room situation are rather limited, do these units require corner locations, and do they also require a fair distance to the wall? Noticed that they have a front firing passive woofer and a rear mounted active one. My situation could make distance to the wall an issue. Guess I need to get out and hear these subs in a showroom. Even when Ultimate had all three, the setup was hard to fathom relative to the signal source and the receiver settings, etc. Having read tons of stuff on the SVS cylinders, I was leaning that way since I do have one short corner between two doorways which is about the size of those designs, but I have yet to determine what the cylinder is made from, so that leaves me hanging on just what I'd be purchasing. Also, a wooden enclosure just fits my perception of what a speaker should be, but perceptions can be misleading. Aesthetically, the RSWs would also match my RF-35 fronts, RC-35 center, and maybe someday my rear surrounds, if I ever get the wife re-convinced on wall mounting the RS-35s that are still new in the box for nearly two years...... might have them up for sale if she keeps insisting on in-wall rears. Thanks again for the feedback, and any insight into the placement questions? Larry
lo123
Checked the Klipsch product page and the RSW-10 is described as front firing active with rear firing passive speaker, the -12 and -15 are described exactly the opposite. Anyone with these subs have any idea if this is an accurate description?
Fish
The only part I know is that the 12/15 have the powered speaker in the rear.
lo123
What kind of distance do you have from active rear speaker to wall/corner?
Mikekid
The RSW-10 is definitely a rear firing sub. I have it out from the wall about 6", under the end table next to the couch. NICE little sub. No complaints. Take care Mike
Zen Traveler
What kind of distance do you have from active rear speaker to wall/corner? My RSW-12 and 15's are rear firing. My RSW-12 is on the side wall in front of me. My RSW -15 is on the rear wall 4" from the corner and 8" from the wall.
garymd
I've had my RSW-12 for about 3 years and I've never had a problem. It's a GREAT sub and can be had for under a grand. Never heard of any problems with the RSW series either. If you can afford the 12, I highly recommend it.

lo123
Went to American TV and Electronics after work to demo the RSW-12. Wow, it is a big cabinet, not sure I can find the space for it in my current setup. They have it for $1299, with lots of other speakers on sale, but not this one. They have the RW-12 on sale for $475, but I believe some posts have said it lacks the punch of the RSW-12. Anyway, the sales guy was nice, but played some acoustic guitar and acoustic base CD, hard to tell what the sub was doing or how everything was setup. Guess to adequately demo these subs you almost have to come with your own CDs and DVDs, and be permitted to tune up the receiver settings and sub settings. I will say the 12 inch speakers sure looked impressive, I can imagine what the RSW-15 must look like. On anothe note, I stopped in Ultimate Electronics, they no longer show the RSW-10 or -12 on their web site, and they were also missing from their floor models. They do carry the RW series of subs. CAS
They have it for $1299, with lots of other speakers on sale, but not this one. I'd definitely talk them down from that for an RSW-12. Good sub, but not $1400.00 good (tax).

I agree paying full retail for it would be painful. I would get a list of authorized dealers from the main Klipsch website and call around (even if the next closest place is 100 miles away) and specifically tell the person on the phone that you are looking for an RSW-12 and price IS the consideration of where you are going to buy it. If you find a price you can live with, call your original sales person and ask them to match the price and you will be down to pick it up. If they don't--Road Trip. [] BTW, I would check dealer stock as well. If they have to order it confirm with them the time frame when it WILL be in stock. That's my two cents. lo123
Yes, seemed high, good news is they have RF-7s on sale for $750 each, bad news is I already have a complete 5.0 system matched to RF-35s....... mighty tempting to switch over to the bigger towers, put some posts on 2-channel and Home Theater about any issues driving the RF-7s with my Denon receiver. Decisions, decisions!
kevinlwilliams67
I've had my RSW12 for about 2 years and early on the voice coil locked up and actually ended up getting a new sub cause replacements were on back order. Since than no problems with the 12, I've had an RSW15 for about 6 months now with no problems. I do still plan on buying a RSW10 eventually when I can find a good price on one. GeorgeV
I have had my RSW-15 for a year with no problems. It is located in a corner 4 inches from the side wall and 8 inches from the back wall. The sub provides me with all the base that I want. Plus it's without question the nicest looking sub, important point for the wife.
jdant
I have had the RSW-10 now for almost 4 yrs. I have never had a problem with it. I have the RF-3 series and it does an excellent job- wish I would have bought a RSW-12 though- specs are more impressive on it- O'well maybe someday!!!
