colterphoto1
Thanks Bill and Tom. If you served, in any capacity. THANK YOU. Inanyone is in New Orleans, the National D Day Museum is a MUST SEE. Thereal footage they have of the battle makes the opening scene of SavingPrivate Ryan look like Disneyland. Dtel's took me there on my visitlast fall. It is one of the most humbling experiences I have ever had.It really drives home the bravery of those who stormed the beaches in1944. sheltie dave
I took Liam over to Jefferson Barracks Cemetary yesterday to say "hi" to Uncle Virgil, a WWII vet who stood in the long gray line and passed a few weeks ago while I was in Chicago. We laid flowers, said a prayer, and were getting ready to leave when Liam decided to help the Boy Scouts plant little American flags at the gravestone sides. For half an hour he raced down the rows helping his new friends, caught up in the moment. I watched and cried, tears of joy that most I know and hold dear have (so far) survived, for those now at peace, and the blessings I have been granted. Liam raced back and broke my reverie, told me it was time to go home, and then started to sing the chorus from "Where have all the flowers gone." We live three blocks from the entrance, so we will have an unending stream of visitors from 8am to dusk today. It is a glory to see all the Harleys barking thunder as they roll past on a trip to visit their sleeping buds. words and music by Pete Seeger performed by Pete Seeger and Tao Rodriguez-Seeger Where have all the flowers gone?
