thebes
Mine look just like that! Does that mean somebody modded these at one time? I can see what look like brads in the face of the motorboard around the edge. Maybe that explains it. I think the pair I own, which are 1's, sound better than the 2's I'm holding for Rplace. What's the purpose of this mod?
johnyholiday
What makes johny think ,is all the kg's were flush mounted drivers &horns ,counter sunk, on the motor board,or some early kg's {kg2's} were just front mounted no counter sink, an this "Gillum 3" would be post kg timeline wise, so why not flush mount these "Gillum 3" drivers & horns counter sunk, but time was taken anyway, to bevel the motor board, instead of counter sinking,an there has been posts before {with documentation} that the back mounting didn't realy amount to a dime's worth sound wise ,what was Gillum thinking/know? djk
"so why not flush mount these "Gillum 3" drivers & horns counter sunk, but time was taken anyway, to bevel the motor board, instead of counter sinking" The bevel is done in the same operation the hole is cut in. The countersunk horn is a two-step operation. Plus the plastic horn is flat on the backside, the cast aluminum is not flat. The magnet on the tweeter would need to be removed for a front mount. The flush mounting makes an audible difference with the tweeter, and measureable too. It makes little difference on the midrange horn.
