What is so special about the Marantz 9's, why do they command such a price? How often do they pop up? I think for something like that, I had better start going to some of these estate auctions they have around the old oil barron houses near downtown Tulsa. I've heard stories, and even went to a house, but when I saw the number of cars there, I decided not to bother. Any ideas where to find that kind of gear? I can't imagine someone selling that kind of gear on epay. Good looking 9's are getting rare. 5 years ago, $10 grand would have bought a pretty decent pair. Now it's $17K to $20K. Back when Allan owned them, he probably sold them for a couple hundred each! I'm on the hunt for some 9's someday. I need a pair to mate up with my audio consolettes. As for throwing figures around,.. well, certainly no more than what you are doing by stating limits or degrees of cost that members on an audio forum should place on audio gear purchases. As for cars, you don't want to go there with me. I know cars pretty well. No, I don't know what model porche you have, but I've heard you tout about it on more than one occassion and on more than one forum. Besides, I couldn't be too far off, unless were talking about a collector version, or your car's a turbo, or it's just a beater high mileage porche. In any event, I think you got the point regarding your arrogant opinons concerning the limits people should pay for audio gear. Now go find yer'self a 60% steep declining grade that approaches a 10 mph curve w/o guardrails and take it at 80mph. Then come back and tell me you've pushed your porche's limits. Adirondacks or not, I know you have not pushed the limits of that car. Not on city/county/or mountainous roads. If you ever make it down Tulsa way, please send me an email. No, I wish, but too think the Marantz #-series are way over-rated But I DID manage to win THIS one though.. 1961 Harman Kardon A-260 integrated amplifier Tube compliment : 2 x 12AX7 > 2 x 12AU7 > 2 x 7247 > 4 x 6L6GC , IMO it's kind of a a poor man's MC-240, and the iron is decent but certainly not as substantial as the McIntosh- but I've always been a fan of the lowly 6L6GC "geeetar tube" (But my ultimate plan is to alter the plate voltage/cathode load to allow it to run either a quad of 350B or maybe KT66s in push pull) Hope it doesnt need too much work, still need to find a schematic...
