thebes
Love this place but Im thinking of branching out. I was prompted to this action by a novel I was reading about George Washington during the French and Indian War. The novels main character had a friendship with Benjamin Franklin and at one point in the book he describes Ben as a Voluptuary Now Im not sure exactly what happened when I read this word but my inner psyche had an almost visceral reaction, a connection if you will. Images and sensation flashed through my mind, the smell of jasmine on an earlobe, the sound made by the hem of a skirt rubbing against silk, a tilted chin, the swell of a generous mound beneath a blouse, parted cherry-red lips, a glisten of sweat tasting so slightly salty. Startled by the sensual nature of my thoughts I immediately surmised that here might be a new undertaking at hand. Another avenue, a new hobby to explore, learn, and eventually assume a level of expertise and knowledge. Im a little tentative though. I notice that as I get older I approach a new undertaking with a certain amount of wariness. After all, I have no idea what a voluptuary is, but I assume its somewhere in the same league as a audiophile or stamp collector. I would imagine that in some ways it is a solo undertaking, but with a commonality of interest for those like-minded. I also harbor concerns that like my current hobby there will be a growing level of expense to further strain my meager resources. Despite these reservations the word sings to me. I can only assume there will be delightful new toys and objects to acquire, experiment, and, yes, play with. Naturally I turn to my more knowledgeable hobbyists for advice as to weather I should pursue this avenue, or not. Im thinking of looking the word up in the dictionary for I suspect I should learn more. I m sure The Twins will make no objection.
oldtimer
Go for it Thebes (you aren't married are you? otherwise your hobby might lead to being thrown into a vulturary, that's a word I just made up meaning an aviary containing ravenous vultures). Moderators dtel's wife Posted June 2, 2007 Moderators Share Posted June 2, 2007 Thebes, I am certain The Twins will have no objection, but I thought you were already a voluptuary![]
HarryO
MIghty Thebes, Some pursuits may be treacherous. Travel with care my friend. I wasn't sure of the meaning either so I emailed an old friend by the name of Malaprop. I received an explanation above my understanding. I shall search a different media for my answer. Luck and Godspeed in your adventures. Keep the quill damp and let word reach us of this new undertaking. I'm still looking up the word "Vaginarian" HarryO

thebes
I looked it up an here's what they say: "A person devoted to luxury and the gratification of sensual appetites; a sensualist." Sounds like fun if not quite a hobby. I hope that sensualist stuff doesn't imply sensitive, you know, touchy-feely. Everytime I get touchy-feely with the inside of my stereo gear I get quite a shock. sputnik
Such a hobby could be fraught with inherent danger. Are you willing to pay the price?
