ejfud
I've been working on these for a few weeks and finally got some finish on them. The maple was a bear to work with. It was not backed and very dry and brittle, but I'm liking the results. The other problem with using a light wood is that seems, which show up as dark lines, must be tight. Working with a beat up par, the corners were not very square, but they turned out great. Four coats of tung oil so far, and I'm shooting for seven. Crossovers on their way to Bob for a rebuild, new pie shape badges on order from Klipsch, rope caulk for the horns and better binding posts installed on the back. Will post more pics when they are done. Tough to get the figure of the wood with the camera, but I tried.
Marvel
Gary, They are looking great. I have some plans for a build very soon, and am trying to decide if I can also put some veneer on them. I may forgo the veneer at the present and see how well I like the sound. I can always make them look pretty later. Did you use a contact cement, or a PVA glue with the heat set method? ejfud
I've done both methods and prefer the PVA/heat method. I've done many projects this way and never had a failure. When gluing wood to wood, I think this method is superior.
arfz28
Wow very nice work, I am working on a set of heresys right now that are getting veneered in ribbon stripped sapele.I hope my heresys turn out as nice as your cornwalls.
boomac
I wish I had the talent to do something like that myself. I may fool around and try it with an older pair of Heresys this winter. Here's a shot of some Cornwalls that I had a professional do.

Groomlakearea51
Beautiful!! Cornwalls with that type of wood pattern are spectacular! I also like Boomac's black risers to offset that golden hue.

boomac
Here's a top view of the curley maple Cornwalls. I have another pair (oiled walnut & a bit rough) that I think I'll have done as well. This time I figure to stain the wood a little darker and I'm considering doing the front edge in cherry. I've seen that contrast on another project and it really looks great. Picking coordinating grill cloth may be difficult. Again, I wish I were handy enough to take the project on myself but veneer isn't cheap and I'm afraid I'd hack it up. ejfud
Finished and playing as I type. Thanks to Bob and his recap of the crossover, these sound great. I can't seen to get a good picture of these. Here is the best of many tries.
ejfud
Here they are jammed into my little (9 x12) room. I'm really liking the sound of these Cronwalls. Very smooth and tight. I'm amazed that these can perform this good in such a small room. Thanks to everyone on this board for all the help. Now time for some music. colterphoto1
Those look great! For best photos take em outside (or under an overhang or just open the garage door) and shoot them with natural light skimming over them at an angle. Everything looks better under natural light! Hey, what's all those other goodies in the background of that one pix in the workshop? Me likes sparkly 60's grilles! Michael
