Tesla- Real To Reel

Format: CD

It's a bunch of Rockin Covers! At first it just made me want to hear the originals, but now it's growing on me. I thought they would of been better off making another great album of their own material. It's nice to see them pay some respect to their influences, and hear them take them on as well. Packaging is very cool with a "Reel" 1 and "Reel" 2 for a bonus disc you can only get if you attend one of there concerts which contains better songs. Maybe not but alot of them are good ones and "Reel" one is no slouch. I'd say they are equal which is why not having "Reel" two just feels wrong. They should of at least made it an "option" to buy it later. Granted I would love to see them live but not everyone will have that chance.

There is a nice "booklet" on The Making Of Tesla Real To Reel. Little photos sometimes mentioning the takes it took for a song ( 1 take at times!), and the equipment they used. This is excellent for a tone addict like me ( I wish it went a little more in debt on "guitar rigs"), and maybe even something a producer can enjoy. They boast about how they used NO MACHINES. Here is some of the recording equipment used. I wont' get into the Guitar and Amps which were pretty cool as well.

NEVE 8078 84 channel console, Neve 8108 56 channel console, Studer 827 tape machine with Ampex 456 @ +6db, MCI tape machine, Ampex 100 tape machine with BASF 900 @ +6db, Focusrite EQ, Distressors, Pultec EQ's, AMS Reverb, TC DELAY, SPL transient designer, DBX 160X, AKG C12 A's, Telefunken 269's, Neumann U47's, Shure SM 57's, Sennheiser 421's.

"Reel" One ( This is the one your buying if you choose to)

Space Truckin ( Deep Purple)

Walk Away ( James Gang)

Hand Me Down World ( The Guess Who)

Bad Reputation ( Thin Lizzy)

Thank You ( Led Zeppelin)

I've Got A Feeling ( Beatles)

Day Of The Eagle ( Robin Trower)

Ball of Confusion ( The Temptations) < Wow excellent! Nice Tesla-fying it

Rock Bottom ( UFO)

Stealin' ( Uriah Heep)

Bell Bottom Blues ( Derek And The Dominos0

Honky Tonk Women ( Stone? Just kiddin :) )

Dear Mr. Fantasy ( Traffic)

"Reel" two ( If your lucky enough to see them on tour, and score a copy this is what you get. EBAYmaybe?)

All The Young Dudes ( Mott The Hoople/ David Bowie)

Make It Last ( Montrose)

Shooting Star ( Bad Co.)

Not Fragile ( Bachman Turner Overdrive) < Grits teethe this is ROCK I wish it came on "Reel" 1

Street Fighting Man ( Rollin' Stones)

Is It My Body ( Alice Cooper)

I Want To Take You Higher ( Sly And The Family Stone)

Do You Feel Like We Do ( Peter Frampton)

Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers ( ZZ top)

Seasons Of Wither ( Aerosmith)

Saturday Night Special ( Lynyrd Skynyrd)

War Pigs ( Black Sabbath)

Dear Fans,

We hope you enjoy rockin' to this album as much as we did makin' it. It is TESLA at it's best: Live and Real, playing some of our favorite tunes in a spontaneous burst of time. In this day and age of computers, live music has become chopped, over-thought and with the lifed edited right out of it. We kept this document real with mistakes and all, trying to capture the spirit of our mentors from the glory days of Rock and Roll.

Enjoy!,

Frank Hannon 4/7/07

Taken from the The Making of Real To Real with absolutely no permission. I hope Frank your cool with it.

Bottom line if you like most these songs buy this CD it ROCKS!

What No Thebes again, what a slacker he's becoming, having a middle-age attack no doubt, or maybe the Twins have worn him down, Oh Well, the music must carry on :

In the Zeppelin mood, huh? Well, here's my favorite LED ZEP.............LED ZEPPELIN III...........Always felt this to be the best over-all Zep. Covers their style quite well, both Electric Guitar, and their Acoustic material, which is, second to none. There are really, the only group to WARN us about the Perils of Women, their somewhat evil side, and the joys and dangers of the pleasure of flesh, Wise men these guys, but most of us didn't follow their warnings, and the rest is history. Gallows Pole just about sums it up for me, twisted lads, if you really listen to the words. Led Zeppelin were really, Storytellers, before mtv started that show, and one must listen to the words to grasp the message they send. They were a Great group, I think the owned the 70's, who was any better ? NONE, that's who............they had it all, One of the Best Guitarist's, the Blonde Frontman with shirts that were too small to button, a Drummer, considered by many, as the Best, and ol' John Paul Jones, keyboards, Bass, whatever they needed to get their sound.....HEAVY METAL indeed......the Blues for sure......God, I love this 70's stuff........."Mellow is the Man who knows what he's been missing"

I just ranted in 2-channel about no one using the music/movies forum so I better start typing.

New Pornographers-Challenger LP(2007-Matador Records) I've had this since the day it came out a month ago and have listened to it at least a dozen times. Probably my favorite of their albums. The beautiful Neko Case and her AMAZING voice are always a highlight. I really recommend her solo album titled Blacklisted. Awesome indie/alt-country murder ballads. Back to Challengers...it is a little mellower than both the last NP album and the AC Newman(their singer) album. I guess I would classify this as indie-rock with both male and female vocals. You can check out some samples HERE.

EX-GIRL

It is more Japanese avant-garde new wave punk rock experimental japanese music. These girls are among my favorite japanese bands. I was able to see them live in Denton, TX before the SXSW music fest in Austin, TX. The show was amazing and suprisingly psychedelic. They did the strangest best version of Alabama Song I have heard to date. The band consist of three girls but they sound like six. The vocals are interesting with crazy harmonics and acapella rants at times. If I had to compare them to western music I would say it is a combo of Beefheart, Zappa, B-52's, Talking Heads, Nina Hagen, Devo, and something stranger for good measure. Strange original and lots of fun.

No problem, you got the second cd all the songs listed? I pre ordered mine from Best Buy and was susposed to get a bonus disc, but not the full length Reel 2. I never even got it made me mad. Thanks for the heads up i'm gonna have to do a search on that.
