Integra DHC-9.9?

OK, so your thoughts??

Enough bang for the buck...as a consumer model, or is this model getting closer to the pro model Anthem too?

Integra DHC 9.9 ..@ 2000.00 vs about 8,000.00 for the Anthem Statement D2. It seems like a no brainer? (Unless you believe that you can see and hear a 6,000.00 difference? Maybe you can, but 6,000.00 is a lot of money too..)

Hi Indy,

Yes, it is the DHC-9.9. The difference would probably be more like $5,000 (taking 20% off both units) but that is still a substantial savings for the 9.9. Since the Statement wasn't in my budget anyway it really was not even on my radar, although I know it is one of the best, if not the best, processors out there right now. My dealer carries both the Integra and the Anthem units. Both have room correction but the nod would have to go to the Anthem in that regard as the setup equipment (microphone) is a much better piece of gear than the one that comes with the Integra. However, that being said, I understand that Integra has more of a pro-microphone (for lack of better terminology) that may be used in the setup process. I will have to ask my dealer about this. This may even things out a bit more?

My previous processor was the B&K Reference 31 (Ref 31 = an updated Reference 30 to the processor of the Reference 50) and the Integra is a definite improvement. When I have played standard DVDs I have noticed that the sound is clearer/cleaner and a bit less forward sounding (and more natural) than that of the B&K. The Integra is definitely a step up from the B&K, but the B&K is no slouch. I was very happy with that unit and made my move primarily to take advantage of the improved sound via BD technology and the room correction feature. When I first heard a BD through the Integra I knew that I had made the right move. Since my PS3 was sending the audio signal through an optical cable it's tough to say whether the difference I am hearing is due to the processor or the BD. Perhaps it's a bit of both? In any event the sound is better and that is what I was looking forward to.

You and I also run essentially the same projector, Indy. I believe that you have the Infocus SP7210 (?) and I have the 7205, which are basically the same model. I am just starting to play around with the video settings in the Integra but I my initial impression was that the image was a bit better when we were watching a movie over the weekend.

Overall I am very impressed with the Integra. On standard DVDs it has not been a HUGE step above the B&K but it is better. As I stated earlier, BDs are a different story altogether. The difference is dramatic. Oh! room correction...

Still playing around with it a bit. Two examples: 1) Iron Man BD- the sound was vastly improved with room correction on 2) Standard concert dvd last night-the sound was better and more natural sounding with room correction off. This leads me to believe that I need to redo the Audessey setup. More on this later.

The Integra DTR9.8 is a very good performer on all fronts,I just purchased one for my PC(you read that right) sound system. I have tested this unit in my systems driving Dynaudio and Klipsch speakers. The amp section is quite competent for a receiver, the sound quality very good. Video section is great,as expected with a upscale receiver.Connections on the back panel plenty for all but the most complex systems. The two extra zone outshave sub outs, very welcome.

Overall a great buy at the price it retails for. Often people will pay a good deal less making it a major great deal.

I just ordered the newly released Integra DHC-9.9 the replacement of the DTC-9.8. This will also be a replacment for my Parasound C2 that I have been using since it's release. I will be looking at Parasounds C3 that is scheduled to be released in a few months.

OS

How does the 9.9 compare with the C2 in 2 CH. mode for just music? What speakers are you using and what is driving them?

The 9.9 and 9.8 are identical, only difference is Dynamic Volume aand a higher MSRP on the 9.9. I have a 9.8 and am fairly pleased with it compared to the Sunfire Theater Grand IV it replaced.

So are you fairly pleased or blown away?

I assume your at full 1080p HDMI video and audio now too?

I also have the Sunfire IV as well. Let me know..

I don't know that I'd say blown away, I'd say I'm fairly happy at this point. There are quite a few quirks that get a little annoying. It takes longer than I'd like to lock onto an HDMI signal and I get a pop sound over HDMI occasionally from my cable box. I'm running FW 1.4 and need to upgrade to 1.8, but need to order a USB to RS232 cable to accomplish this, hoping that solves issues. As far as surround sound and general convienience I am very pleased compared to my old Sunfire. I'm also really pleased with the Reon upconverting and connectivity. Audsey is also pretty slick. One thing to note though is that all of my audio connections are digital, I'm not using any analog currently. I wouldn't doubt that the Sunfire might excel in that area ahead of the Integra, but I don't really much care as it doesn't apply to me. The sunfire had some "issues" as well. My volume knob on the front of the unit never worked right, it would skip around so I pretty much always had to use the remote. From what I've seen this is very common in the TGs and ultimate recievers. Also since inputs were not assignable, it made many of them kinda useless to me.Other than that I really loved the look and sound of the TGIV, but it definately showed it's age feature set wise.

Hi Tarheel...long time no talky!

Just sitting here blown away by the Oldbuckster news.

Yep, we sold our house in Danville and now live in Northern Durham County. Wife finially is closer to Duke so she doesn't have to make that 160 minute daily drive. Finially got land, 14.5 acres, and have an amish barn coming in tomorrow and horses from NY next week. Whisky for the horses!

We were down there a few weekends ago and fished at Ft. Fisher...always love that area. We actually came very close to moving there as the hospital needed a Chief of Anesthesia last year, but we couldn't meet on a salary....oh well...it was fun dreaming!

Hope to be posting more as I have an entire new set of circumstances in audio to tackle, and I'm out of touch...no...rusty....no IGNORANT!

Great to see you back Phil. I never post on HT but I saw your name the other day and thought I would welcome you back. Sounds like some homestead you are putting together! I know what you mean about salaries here.....they think that living at the beach is pay enough.

Terrible news about the buckster.....I miss him already. I think with the three OB threads going we have over 260 post. Only a small tribute to a great guy. He was so good about taking newbies under his wing and often was the first to welcome them here. He will be missed.

The wife still goes to Duke for check ups so maybe one of these days I'll run in to you. We are going to have a lot of Carolina basketball to talk about as well[:)]
