Curious.....What do you have your gains/attenuators set at on the Crown's?

I know you're not asking me....but I'll answer anyway [6] (Bill always has his turned too far down anyway!!)

I'd speculate that I'm the only one running Crown K2's. I just replaced (tonight) my BX3 with the two K2's.

One thing I've done in the past is try to adjust the gain knobs so when everything is turned down...I'd have no noise. I started at the K2's and worked my way back to my Peach (which is also currently out in lieu of my Lexicon) When I had my Peach in, I had the gains on it MAXED because the closer I got to 12:00, the MORE noise would be in the system. I got the least amount of noise either way down or way up but no where near, the middle.

I ended up having the gains on the K2's on about the 5th click. Let's call it 9:00 position.

What I'm finding intersting is, tonight when I put them back in (hooked up to the Lexicon for the first time)

Anyways, when I hooked them back up.... I could have them MAXED and hear some noise, so I was able to back them down to about 3:00 until the noise was pretty much gone. This certainly livens up the potential volume control!

I always had them at 9:00 which is certainly good enough for most everyday listening and 'cranking'. If I wanted to work downstairs or outside and needed some extra muscle, I could always move them up. Kind of like having secondary butterflies on your carb in your (in my case) Oldsmobile 442 [Y]

I've heard the Palladiums at Damon's house. I
would have to say that to me......they sounded like an ultra-refined
Reference speaker, that had midrange so smooth I've never heard out of
a Heritage speaker. Fantastic speaker.....but the price is a different
story.

For what it's worth, I think the Palladium has a
bit smoother midrange than the Jubilee, but I think a lot of that has
to do with Damon's very nice sounding room. I'm yet to hear Jubs in
such a tweaked out situation.

As far as the bass, it's quite
apparent that the Jub has way way lower distortion - so it sounds a lot
more effortless and in your face with percussion. I also prefer the
sound of bass when its tucked into the corner of the room and the Pals
pretty much require placement out away from the corner in order to
sound their best. That's probably the other half of why the mids are so
smooth (naturally less early reflections).

Being a 2-way, the
Jubilee is a bit more cohesive than the Palladium...especially when it
comes to cymbals, high hats and pretty much anything that hits the
registers of the tweeter. The Palladium sounds like the highs are
seperate from everything else, where with the Jub it all sounds like
its coming from the same place. I find it particularly distracting with
strings and piano actually.

Actually, I would probably prefer the
Palladium if it had a more cohesive top-end...the extra distortion in
the bass is more forgiving of lesser quality source material, and
everything else about the speaker is just so "inert".
