  1. 'Here's Tony's diagram and message again - first diagram for modded klipschorn project...' hope this is legible...a few notes: 1. active crossover will be using linkwitz riley 48db/octave to minimize phase problems between drivers. 2. I am not sure of the klipschorn bass bin sensitivity rating, the others are taken from the respective manufacturers and include compression driver + horn. I used the K-33E stated sensitivity but if anyone knows the correct K-33E + basshorn reading please give it to me. 3. delays are approximate and were sourced from richard heyser´s measurements in 1989. 4. alternate mid-horn is Fostex H200 and alternate mid-drivers are BMS H4591 and JBL 2485J. 5. top hat is based on q-mans and john warren´s superklipschorn project, check them out at http://home.comcast.net/~wooferboy/Page_5.html 6. exact crossover points are yet to be determined, I may extend the altec mid horn up to 6KHz before passing to JBL tweeter and I may extend the klipsch bass bin up to 500Hz before passing to Altec mid. listenting tessts will determine final points (comments welcome!) any feedback would be greatly appreciated, tony edit: diagram corrected for sensitivity and impedance too : )
  2. What a great thread. Congratulations Garymd and to Bass656, thanks for bringing some excitement to the board. What a class act. One to tell the grandchildren about.
  3. Just finished the last dram of the Glendronach. Similar to Glenmorangie but not quite as caramelly. The little guys sitting on the black LaScala are Axiom Epic Micro speakers with 3 1/2" aluminum woofers and titanium tweeters. They're pretty amazing for the size and have great OWMO appeal. I just sold them and am now running a RF3 setup for HT.
  4. size is everything actually, this is test to see if I can get the photo to show up instead of just being a link I think I've got it. This calls for a wee dram. slainte!
  5. I'm with you, Pat. I had a severe leg injury a year ago and spent much recovery time with the forum. And I still check in. Always some idea or tweak on the forum to learn from, listen to or chuckle at. Thanks, Klipsch -
  6. Hi. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your Heresy find. It's nice to find another pawn shop junkie. I also run a vintage Marantz receiver with my Klipsches - nice rich sound. IMHO,I find that playing with speaker placement makes a bigger difference than cables. For the Heresies, I prefer them about ear height with each in from the corners about half the distance between them and out from the back wall about a foot and a half. What kind of tunes are you listening to?
  7. Can someone run that by me again, please. When I load a pix, I usually get a link. To get the pix to appear with the forum entry, you add: (img src="http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/files/020_21A1.JPG") with [] what about the file location of the pix?
  8. "Rosebud was his Sleigh" - Lucy to Charlie Brown in 'Peanuts'
  9. Let's not forget about Luther Wright and the Wrongs and their total remake of 'The Wall' in bluegrass. It's worth a listen.
  10. Whadda about da Boss? Ya know - da kid from da Jersey side over der in Barcelona? Springsteen in Barcelona reaches out and grabs you like nothing else. Also, I remember Neil Young on SNL doing 'Rockin in the Free World' - beyond amazing, I'll have to look for that one. Thanks for reminding me, Steeler Dan
  11. There's two Queen's Greatest Hits DVD's - volume 1 and volume 2. On the second disc in volume 2, go past the God Save the Queen intro into the menu. You'll find 4 audio tracks that aren't exactly hidden but probably ignored in getting to the video segments. The menu has 4 sub-menus - Hot Space, The Works, A Kind of Magic, The Miracle and Subtitles. When you click on the sub-menu Hot Space, you will see more selections, but if you let the dvd play without hitting the selections, you'll get a full instrumental studio mixdown of 'Under Pressure'without Dave or Freddie. Let 'The Works' play and there's a great woofer rattling version of 'Break Free'. Click on 'A Kind of Magic' and there's an instrumental version of the wussy 'Friends will be Friends'. And click on "The Miracle" and there's a great audio track of 'The Miracle'. (Nothing on the subtitles) The tunes are the actual studio mixes without voices except for the odd chorus. Sounds kind of karaoke like and great in the dts mode. I saw someone here on the forum had discovered the Queen dts dvd a couple days ago ( didn't say which one - I only found this on the second ) For a quick fix, I was able to bring them into the computer as mp3's by using the recorder on the audigy 2s sound card. So ladies and gentlemen, stand, raise your glasses and a salute to Queen. Hamish
  12. Seems like you got the biggest Mother's Day gift of all. Speakers, amps and things don't seem too important all of a sudden when a family member is in crisis. I just about lost my Mom a few years ago to similar circumstances and it was a gift to have her back. How's the song go - 'These are the Days' Thanks for reminding me not to take things for granted. Hamish
  13. Due to injury, I'm going to sell my black LaScalas and if you want them, you're going to have to come and get them (sitting in the middle of the front parlour in the beautiful Upper Ottawa Valley, Ontario, Canada). They are labelled: 1 09000711210 LS Finish Black SN 88843 W/O 17241 inspected by Larry Cox Tested by V__? Horton 2 09000711210 LS Finish Black SN 84610 W/O 16641 inspected by Larry Cox Tested by V__? Horton Both are in good condition with good black grill cloths. One has a mark on the top middle from where something hot might have been set. Other than that, some scratches and wear from moving but generally in good shape. I believe these are from 1985 and they do have the AL-3 crossovers. Open to reasonable offers. Hamish
  14. Hey Griffinator, I agree with you. Hardest part is the waiting. So I wish you a healthy and speedy recovery with some quality time with your audio gear and a few meds. Best wishes. Hamish
  15. One of the neat things about music is that it can take you back instantly to where you were at one place and one time. I connected with the Werewolves of London at a house party in North York in the late '70's. I think it was about the same time Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" and the Police was coming out. And wasn't Waddy Wachtel doing some lead guitar on Warren Zevon's early stuff? Waddy also did lead for some of Linda Ronstadt's stuff (Poor Poor Pitiful Me- another Warren Zevon tune, I think) - really nice crunchy riffs without being overbearing. There was some great music going around then. Anyway, a wee dram to Warren Zevon. Slainte Mhath. Hamish
  16. try a couple of cookie sheets or likewise under the Heresy. I've got a similar setup with the D series JVC 32"
  17. Like haggis, pickled eggs & Guinness, it's a matter of individual taste and preference. Here's what works for me. Measure the wall you want to place them against and divide into quarters, then place each speaker in from the outside wall at that quarter mark. So you'd end up with a 1.2.1 ratio. I keep them out about a foot from the back wall, and follow a Forum tip in keeping the fronts tipped up by a 2 x 4 wrapped in a towel to prevent standing waves. The sweet spot is straight out from the middle at the same distance between the two. IMHO both LaScalas and Heresys are deep bass shy and benefit from subs. Anyway, enjoy them.
  18. Hi Max2mc. Welcome to the forum. If you type 'industrial lascala' in the search box in the top right, it'll take you to some nice jpg links of Klipsch brochures & specs.that William F. Gill McDermott was kind enough to provide. The continuing threads provide more info as well. Or you can search by date. Here it is: 7/31/2003 2:10:40 The search box is great for finding info. Take care. Hamish
  19. tHe wORLDs werst TYPesT ( sorry BBB ).... ...I mean, "The World's Worst Movie" has got to be 'Pink Flamingos' made back in the early '70's. Anybody remember Divine's culinary preference in that flick? I'm wondering if this will ever come out on dvd in 5:1 sound. Hamish
  20. Hey Painful Reality, Thanks for the info. I had a good wander around the Tenor Audio site. Seems they're in Canada too & endure the Montreal winters. Anyway, the prices seem to be associated with the money to burn crowd - another way to keep warm. I've been looking at some Ideal Innovations tube amps. They're out of Ontario and have some interesting products that are more in line with my budget. Here's the link: http://www.idealinnovations.biz/ Have a look and let me know what you think. The class A 'Stereo 35A' looks kind of interesting. Hamish
  21. Hey painful reality, I was wondering if Billiz's amp would be able to heat my house. You answered my question. 42 windows in an Eastern Ontario winter ain't fun. Even the dog's water bowl freezes over and the cats at the foot of the bed have frost in their whiskers . Anyway, here's a question for you tube gurus. Billiz's tube amp shows two knobs which I would assume to be volume pots. Would I be able to run a straight stereo line out into a tube amp like this without going through a pre-amp stage and use the volume pots for my speaker gain? I do this with my ss stuff sometimes and it's noticably cleaner. Thanks. Hamish

  23. a dram and a pint to your health and set the gerbils to stun. Slainte mhath. Hamish
  24. Hi Jgatty, Your RX-V1 is a nice machine. I run a RX-1300 with Heresy's on the fronts right now and hook the LaScalas up to it sometimes when the wife is away. On the speaker setup menu, there is a -10 db cut for main speakers so you can run something more efficient without drowning everything else out. The music setting on the neo:6 is my favourite surround mode for tunes as it opens up the recordings without being echoey or diffusing the imaging. So the Belles should sound awesome.... I'd love to hear your setup...let's see.... Joan Osborne's "Help Me Baby".....tastefully loud....
