They did not seem to technologically advance at the same pace as say, space exploration, and gene technology. Although I didn't let that detract from the movie because it helped maintain the non-CGI aspect, an aspect that can remove the viewer from belief if over persued (much like I view some parts of the latest Star Wars movies.) ---------------- The reason is because director Andrew Niccol wanted to portray the future as a flash to the past, if that makes any sense. Look at everyone's cars, hairstyles, hats, and manners of dress. It's all 20's style. It was an interesting creative decision I think works very well. After all, look at fashion trends nowadays. Everything from the old days is slowly coming back.

    Gattaca

This movie came out when I was in 8th grade. I went to see it 3 times, each time dragging along different friends. I wrote a paper about the metaphor and symbolism in this film for one of my college film school classes. Got an A. Gattacca is one of my Top 10 Films of All Time. I could not agree with you more, D, except for the fact that even if the DVD was $50+, anyone would do themselves a great service to own it.

    Sin City

Elijah Wood is creepy... A real digression from "Frodo." Mickey Rourke stole the show, by far. Hailed as his great "comeback role..."

  8. Well well well! I'll see if I can coordinate my trip there with yours. If possible, I'd go to the concert with you, Steve. (Listening to Nightwish's "Once" as we speak...)

  10. Well, I'm back from Atlanta! My family and I had gone to visit my brother, who just started his residency in General Surgery at Emory Hospital. Thanks to all who helped me with suggestions on places to eat, things to see, spots to visit. My family and I checked out a TON of stuff -- everything from Little Five Points to The Underground, Phipps and Luxman (I think?) malls, the CNN Center to Jack's Muncheteria, Midtown to Korea-town. Tried out a host of the recommended restaurants too, from Nickiemoto's (where they had a drag show) to South of France, from the best Indian to the best Thai in the city, and a newly-made friend of mine even took me to The Waffle House! He said no trip to Atlanta was complete without some good, greasy, oily comfort food from there. Of course, I checked out a hell of a lot of bars and clubs on my own at night... Atlanta is awesome. But in all honesty, the bars, clubs, restaurants, shops, malls, and what-have-you do not quite compare to that of LA, in my opinion. Then again, most cities don't. HOWEVER... ...it's the PEOPLE that make the place. They are so warm, inviting, friendly, that good ol' "southern hospitality" thing. There's no room for attitude, and when they find out you're from out of town, they literally take you by the hand and show you around and introduce you to everyone they know. You can walk up to anyone and start up a conversation, and in most cases, it was people walking up to ME striking one up. It made me realize just how snooty, stuck-up, and full of BS attitude people in a town like LA really can be. I guess I've just been jaded this whole time. So in terms of a "foreigner" visiting a new place, it was the best experience of my life. Hands down. I'll spare you guys the scandalous details, but I'll just say the 1st night I was there and went out (alone), I met and hooked up with a beautiful girl. Yup, needless to say, I didn't wake up in my hotel room the following morning... The same thing happened the 2nd night. Different girl, of course. =P And the 3rd night is when I met this really special girl. One that I'm now seeing. Thank God for email, text/picture-messaging, and the phone. We're able to talk to each other several times a day, everyday, until I go see her in a month's time. Atlanta rules. That's all I can say. And here are some pics from the trip of me and my family (I'm the one on the very right, btw): This one is at Nickiemoto's. Here's the dinner we had there. At McCray's Tavern (yeah, we talked our way into getting my underage sister in!). With my mom outside our hotel - Embassy Suites in Buckhead. Me trying to act sophisticated at South of France. At the Cheesecake Factory. And my sister's favorite photo (she couldn't get over them). I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!!!

It's like Avid for film and TV editors. Being that you're a musician, you should start familiarizing yourself with Pro Tools ASAP. I can't believe you've never even heard of it!
  12. "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" is good, and their latest album, "Octavarium" is outstanding. However, I think Scenes From A Memory is awesome too. Maybe you're just not a powermetal fan, since Scenes From A Memory is a pretty good showcase of Dream Theater's sound.
  13. DrWho, what's the best way to get music to you? Email? Do you have gmail, or something with a large storage capacity? I should just tell you first though, Muse is not powermetal. They're progressive rock, with influences spanning from Radiohead to Rachmaninoff.
  14. The only album I can do that with is Muse's "Absolution." Too bad it's not on SACD though.
  15. Dr. Atkins also died of a heart attack, I think.
  16. Weird, I was a high school wrestling team captain too! Cutting weight is so, so bad... But, we all went through it. Fiber helps you feel full. Try snacking on oats, almonds, or blueberries when you feel pangs of hunger. There's also celery, which has negative calories. That is, it takes more calories for your body to burn, than the celery actually puts in. You could also just slam some ice-water, since that'll fill you up quick, not to mention require your body to work overtime just to heat the water. Those are little "tricks" I've learned from years of weight-lifting.
  17. Come on boys, let's give the guy a break. He's a good kid. We should probably let this thread die, and James, you should just sell this powercord on Audiogon.
  18. Not to condone or bad-mouth these supplements either way, I'll just state what I know personally. The best weight-loss supplement was Xenadrine RFA-1. However, it's now illegal, since it contains ephedrine. The 2 ephedrine-free supplements I've had the greatest success with in the past (I no longer use them) were Zantrex-3, which will give you major mood-swings, and Man "Scorch." Whatever long-term effects they possess (if any), they worked like a charm. However, I'd listen to Meuge. A proper diet, excercise, plenty of water, and adequate sleep are all the foremost factors. You could also consider taking EFA supplements (essential fatty acids, such as fish oil or flax seed oil), and a fiber supplement.
  19. And let's not forget that the way you can justify/rationalize your expense in hometheater, is that it's an investment that you, your friends, and your family enjoy on a daily basis. And that's just priceless.
  20. Hey Scott, welcome back. How goes the business?
  21. You lucky guy! Steve and I share the EXACT same taste in music and it would've been AWESOME to be in your shoes!
