  1. We are on synchronus cable if I'm not mistaken, so its just as good. As an aside, I set up some of the servers here so our win2k domain is full of computers with audio names "Klipsch", "Rotel", etc.
  2. That does look crazy, its like having a built-in line doubler or something.
  3. I am working on getting a Quake 3 server here in the office. The boss is all for it, we just need to determine what hardware its going to go on.
  4. Rotel also makes a relatively inexpensive preprocessor, the 1066, for about $1300 retail. As for the HK 325, be sure to buy from an authorized dealer and fill out your warranty card. I'm having issues with mine
  5. I have the NS725P, its probably pretty close. Love the picture, hate it for listening to music. I has a tendency to skip the first 2-7 seconds of a track the first time, which drives me up the wall. Also, if you don't hit stop _twice before ejecting a disk, it remembers where you were and picks up there, which is annoying far more often than its nice.
  6. My receiver is unable to show the on screen display through component video cables. I thought this was a shortcoming of an inexpensive product, but looking at higher end preprocessors by Rotel, etc. it seems to be a universal drawback. Sort of a pain if you ask me, does anyone know why this is?
  7. Don't even get me started on this. What people describe as "fair use" is actually not very legal right now, which is horribly unfortunate. Do I have a right to free music? No. Do I have a right to bootlegged movies? No. Do I have a right to listen to a recording on different media? You bet. Do I have a right to watch a DVD that I paid for on my LINUX machine? You bet. Will MPAA and RIAA outlaw all forms of time-shifting and phase-shifting in order to try to squeeze more blood out of the stone? They are doing a damn fine job of it. Whover said that sales are down because Hollywood and the recording industry are saturating us with Epicly Craptacular films and movies had it right. Grrrrr, I could go on for hours.
  8. I demoed the 404 (among other things) at a local retailer before buying my SVS. Several blown floor models turned me off.
  9. So both the side walls and the ceiling are slanted? I'm sure it will work but its a small room to be sure.
  10. I recently got the latest Home Theater magazine which boasts the "100 best DVDs..." list on the cover. Somewhere in there is Platoon, which reminded me what a powerful film that was so I ran out and bought the special edition. I was completely unimpressed with the sound. It sounds somewhat quiet and very undynamic. Dialogue wasn't mixed well either. Anyone else have experience with this DVD? I guess I was somewhat disappointed.
  11. I too recently heard the B&W 802s, paired with Brighton amps. I have to say it sounded awesome, I had that sinking feeling in my stomach and my mind was saying "Sigh, this sounds worlds better than my Reference setup". I listened to Tocatta and Fugue (pipe organ Bach) and watched some scenes from Episode II. Wow! However, I was then able to drive straight home, put the same music and DVDs in my system and be satified that I had sound that was almost in the same league for what is truly a tiny fraction of the cost.
  12. I'm in, I'll have to get back to you about my munchkin.
  13. My stuff is in a small room as well. I wish I had gone with the RF-7s. If I can fit my RF-5s and SVS subwoofer in a small room...
  14. Poll: is it going to be aweful? Scary? Campy? Bloody? Being in production for 10 years I would expect something decent at least.
  15. Read Mr. Cranky's review of daredevil at www.mrcranky.com. Very funny.
  16. I think you should look into SVS. Many, many people on the forums have had excellent luck with them. Klipsch has not impressed me with their subwoofers. Cost-wise, you will probably come out far cheaper than RSW-10 or 12 as well.
  17. In talking with people and forming my opinion, THX certification is an idea who's time has passed. Home theater is in a much better state now than it was in the days of the first generation Pro Logic. Now that we have digital sound with 5 or more discrete channels of audio that is equalized in the studio and targetted at a DVD based home system I don't think THX certification is worth extra $$. The manufacturer pays a royalty to THX and you pay the manufacturer for that royalty.
  18. Not a bad year for movies really. TTT extended edtion on DVD, two new Matrix movies, return of the king in theaters in december.

    LOOK AT THIS

I dare say that item is in somewhat poor taste.
  20. I've heard the complete 35 system. They are quite good for the price point, my feeling is that over time you will yearn for something larger especially for 2 channel listening.
  21. It wasn't stolen, just bought on employee discount which makes things difficult. Never will I do that again. Right now I can't afford to replace it, BBB.
  22. They are somewhat expensive. I have heard them at a local retailer and they sound quite good, but without hearing it in my home with components closer to my setup it would be hard to say.
  23. The names I see mentioned most are Rotel amd B&K, with a growing voice saying give Aragon a listen.
  24. For that amount take the money and run. Get a Denon avr 2803 or an HK avr 325.
