Why build the speakers in if they look good standing next to screen in all their glory.... ---------------- I guess some may not like the look of the RF series But spending upwards of $2,500 I want them to be seen as well as heard.
  2. Not exactly sure what you meen by adding it to the center channel. I had an SW-8II and ran the left and right main speaker wires out from the receiver to the sub. Then out from the sub to the front speakers. If you are wanting to run it from the center channel speaker I guess you can but why?
  3. I look to see if the receiver is rated for: 1. All channels (x 5, x6, x7) 2. Frequency range (20 Hz to 20khz) 3. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) at that rating (should be very low)(i.e. 0.05%) 4. The Ohms the rating is at. (8 ohms.) 5. Wattage at all the above ratings (xxx watts x 7) 6. Price you are looking at spending. (
  4. Try again Colter, The HTR-xx90 is the same as the RV-X-1400. Power is rated the same.
  5. No offence, if you want the biggest bang for your buck then you better not look at the Klipsch subs.
  6. Yes it will work very good and that's not too bad of a price. (even used)
  7. I think the MSRP here in the US is about $2,400 a pair. Even with the exchange rate to the Euro and additional shipping still in my opinion will not account for the difference. There probably is some "additional" handeling fee. What a crock.
  8. There is one imporatant thing to consider between the two systems. The RF-35 system is front firing port desgin while the FR-7 system is a rear firing port system.

I also can't find that the HK will support 1080i HD signals... Will the Yamaha let me create a custom input? By that I mean, can I associate a particular digital input with a video input and have it stay that way forever? What about custom titling of the inputs? And most importantly, is there a mode on the Yamaha where I can listen to a stereo source (CD/DVD player via analog or digital) that will let me listen through my front speakers and my subwoofer only, without applying any of the DSP stuff (Similar to Straight, only I want to hear my sub, because my current speakers have no bass). Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it! ---------------- Yes the Yamaha will upconvert to component and video switch 1080i. Custom inputs, by that I assume to lable and input to say for example John..the answer is yes. Yamaha has a direct stereo mode. Will a signal be sent to the sub I'm not sure. but I think so.
  10. Ok, the only reason I asked is because they both are not cheap and was just wondering. I know when I was looking at receivers there seemed to be a big step up in the HTR line on the xx90 models then the lesser XX40, xx50 and so on.

  12. The DVE is capable of 6.1 audio test..So that may swing your decision.
  13. echo, in terms of your question about direct DD or DTS on the Yamaha, the answer is yes you don't have to add a DPS extra to the settings.
  14. Let's compare the two. Both are 7.1 receivers HK rated at 55 watts per channel at 0.07% THD Yamaha rated at 110 watts per channel at 0.05% THD Both decode all surround formats. The Yamaha is THX Select certified the HK is not. The HK retail for $699 the Yamaha $799 It's always your call but I like the Yamaha.
  15. I have the DVE disk. It has everything you need. My only complaint is the menue is a little jacked up. It takes awile to make your way through it.
  16. What I have read is that for movies place the two subs in the same corner. For Music place the subs in opposite corners. I have mine in opposite corners due to placement issues. If you want the two subs for increase bass then place them next or on top of each other.
  17. Everybody is going to tell you to select the 2-RSW15's. If you can afford it always get the biggest, baddest subs you can buy.
  18. The length is as long as you can buy or have made. A optical cable is basically a fiber optics cable. If you cannot find one you can always switch to a digital coax calbe for your audio run if your sound card will support it.
  19. From what I have read SDDS is stored on the film.
  20. I would say in the $600-$700 dollar range.
  21. I think the Denon's comes with a SPL in the Remote.

I didn't know there was a breaking time....When I hooked up mine, I tried it right away with movies...could I have damaged it? ---------------- No Jennifer you did not. In terms of set up I have the volume (gain) on my receiver set to -2 (the range is -10 to 0) and on my RW-12 sub it's set to 12 o'clock. Now this setting for you will be different. But this gives you a starting point.

I found it to be almost hypnotic...in that I found myself sitting there fascinated, not blinking and with my mouth hanging open, trying to figure out what the heck is this movie trying to say.... But then the next day, talking about it with some friends at work, I caught myself laughing hysterically at scenes that got zero reaction from me as I actually watched it. Odd. ---------------- That's exactly what happen to me. The next day at work I found myself repeating lines and laughing to myself and co-workers who have seen it. When I was watching it I was dumbfounded.

I agree..every once in a while seeing these movies slow you down from all the Riddick and AvP movies.
