Craig thinks when I hear those Heresy's I'm going to go completely goo-goo-ga-ga, and then kick my RF7's out of the house. I can't possibly imagine -- but hell, I guess anything is possible. I'm down to a pathetic 9 wpc. I said that would never happen either.

DB -- I think you're losing it. I just use IPA, Q-tips, and pipe cleaners. Man, it sounded like I upgraded the whole system.

I'm 8 feet away. My chair has a cushy head cushion, so there is padding behind my ears. The closest wall behind me is 15 feet away. The chair is a rocker, and I tend to tilt back a little. I'm as pure as the wind driven snow.

Actually, Craig will work on the Eicos as well -- but I think he breaks out in a rash when he does it. Amp wise -- it comes down to the size of your room and how loud you like to listen. Personally, with your musical tastes -- I would go for a 300b if eyeing the SET thing. So, room size, SPL, and budget. Fill us is. As far as the G.A.W. offering goes -- we still need more information on these things. The type of circuit, quality of the parts used, layout of the parts under the amp, warranty (what happens if one of your amps takes out a pair of K-horns). I'm sorry, but some of us here drive some pretty pricey stuff, and I for one -- am not all that comfortable doing business with anyone that doesn't have an established reputation for quality sound and reliability. You might have to send one of these amps out for FREE, just so someone can do an evaluation and review of the product.

well well well -- ya just couldn't wait could you? Hee hee, I know the feeling. It's tough. You did good! You compared them head on and made a choice -- also keeping in mind where you were going to put them and how you were going to listen. Cool. I also listen nearfield. Not because I have too -- but because I like too. I'm sure you are getting a very good sound out of those. I don't agree with the straight ahead placement. Toe them in and get that energy directed into the listening area, instead of reflecting off of the side walls.

If anyone is interested, my story was posted on the board today. Since I don't have a long history with Klipsch -- it was difficult coming up with something of interest to write. I also didn't want to drone on about how great Klipsch is -- I just wanted to write something that expressed my journey to where I am now, and how it impacted me. Therefore -- it's not very long.

I traded a Dan Wesson .357 revolver for it between 1979 an 1982. I can't remember the exact year. I was selling the gun through the Trading Post, and a caller asked me if I would be interested in a trade. I only knew that Thorens made decent tables -- so I went for it. After I got it, I couldn't do crap with it.

Sometimes I wonder if maybe the more obnoxious and unforgiving the recordings, the more one might be inclined to enjoy tubes, especialy in the horn arena. I do all pop, rock, and metal, and having owned some very fine solid state gear -- I find my material more listenable and enjoyable with tube gear.

I'm not interested. I want another set of RF7's.

Is Vrms the output voltage of the transformer -- or the input voltage from the source? Or neither. My, I'm not very good at this.

Man Leo, you must listen to your stuff at a mere whisper:) If you don't mind me asking: How big is your room, and how far away are you sitting from the RF7's? I sit about 8 feet away, and I'm sure that many times -- I'm using everything the Apollos can deliver (95 db at my listening position). Which reminds me. We had discussion about the 4 ohm taps and total output. The one thing I wanted to get back on you on was your statement related to sensitivity. I remotely understood the math behind the halving of output, but did not really understand how the RF7 went from 102db/w to 99db/w using the 4 ohm taps. Seems to me the sensitivity would be a constant. Just curious.

On this forum, you are probably going to have to bear all to move those things. Where did they come from? Who built them? What was the list price? What tubes are you using? How old are the tubes? What kind of transformers do they have? What parts are being used? More pics would be good. Flip the amp and show us the work.

Jim, Do you hear the tubes ringing through the K-horns, or from the amp -- while the K-horns are playing. I'm guessing your K-horns are thumping those walls pretty good, and you are getting quite a bit of physical vibration through the walls and floor, as well as some acoustical vibration in the air. If you haven't done it already, you might want to get some vibrapods for the CJ -- that will help with the microphonics. It's good that you adjusted the bias, probably sounds better! I think your CJ does 40wpc. My gosh Jim -- that's a bunch of power for the K-horn. Crank away, but man -- watch you hearing. Make sure it's those tubes ringing and not your ears!! Personally, I've found that with the tube amps I've owned so far -- they've actually sounded better when I've jacked the volume somewhat. They really open up when driven. Just make sure the amp is somewhere where it's well ventilated.

I don't have a problem with buying a used cartridge, heck, just about everything I own I bought used except the RF7's and 9000ES. The problem I have is dropping money for a cartridge that I can't continue to use (down the road), because of the lack of availability of a replacement stylus. The MC-1 might be a good place to start for now. Money is tight, and like most audioidiots of the early 80's -- I sold off most of my vinyl. You know, my birthday is in Janurary, and if you wanted, you could send that 3009 gift-wrapped. Hee hee, I guess you want to talk about that later.

Ultralinear is fine. CJ is good stuff. Of course, you won't really hear it's full potential until you get a tube preamp. Don't even think about SET, or any other amp -- until you upgrade that preamp:) Is it "normal" for tubes to ring? I say yes. All tubes are microphonic to some degree. Some are very bad, like the tubes I'm using in my amps. Those suckers ring like a telephone. There are some things you can do to help the situation. Get your stuff as far away from the speakers as practically possible. You can also buy tube dampers. I'm using the Halos right now, and though they didn't get rid of all the ringing -- they certainly helped. http://herbiesaudiolab.home.att.net

Allen, I would love to borrow the arm, and hopefully work out a deal with you later when some money starts rolling in again. Is this acceptable? Which "used" cartridge is going to give me readily available replacement stylis'?

Two different designs with two different sounds. Overall output between the two should be about the same. The PSB probably does have thicker sound since it's ported. The RSW-10 should be tighter and punchier.

Ears -- "NAD" is not a word, it is an acronym. Technically, it's N.A.D. I can't help it that marketing people don't know English. I'm sure the periods were left out so people would say "Nad", instead of "N. A. D." Incidently, John's post was not a joke. "NAD" indeed stands for "New Acoustic Dimension".
