  1. So your wondering if you can get that kind of sound out of a stereo amp....... do you have a 500 watt receiver to push the sub? If not..hmmmmm Can you buy a 500 watt receiver to push it for $170? hmmmm Do you want the wiring grief and extra steps every time you use it and want to adjust the bass levels? To me its money well spent and easy to justify. An amp made for just this purpose and a tidier installation.. My 2 cents...
  2. That makes sense, so in general a larger magnet would tend to give a faster, tighter or more accurate sound during loud passages, all other factors being equal. I know, alot of variables in here,IE: speaker shape, material, etc. This all came about because I have a set of older DLK Model 3 loudspeaker and the 12" woofers have lost the foam at the edges. Actually I think it was still intact until I gave them to my 13 year old son for use in his stereo. I had nothing else to do with them. So now I need new 12's for them and he is interested in quantity of bass not quality too much. I am considering using automotive subs with dual voice coils so that I can get my 8 ohms. And we were looking thru some web sites and comparing specs and PRICES. The magnet size came up and I said it would give more sound but couldnt expain why and of course his little buddy said it didnt make any difference, but I really couldnt defend my point to well. I personally would rather put 12" woofers in and then later build him some dedicated subs, but he really wants to put subs in those speakers....kids. He doesnt care about total sound quality yet and that the ports are the wrong size etc..... Poor old DLK's.....
  3. Heres a real basic question. How does the size of a magnet affect the sound of a sub and why do some have much bigger magnets than others. My son asked me and I didn't have an answer.
  4. I think the Denon uses a "LFE" output. Hook it up there. I jut noticed my count went from350 something to 33...how odd
  5. Good luck, and I know you'll enjoy the new ones, but yeah, I think you'll have to drop the price some more.....Discounters are selling them for less, new in the box....

    bose

Henceforth the former Bose owner credo "Bose Blows" !! No highs, no lows, it must be Bose! Thats what I get for not posting for quite a while....lost 300 posts from my count!
  7. Funny thing is, I noticed no LFE or Sub outputs on back....A bit odd
  8. Hey guys, got a question. Are these the same as the DVD Audio I've been seeing at Best Buy, and do they not play right on a regular DVD player? It sounds to me like many of you have a dedicated SACD player. Am curious as I almost bought a few of them am curious if it would be a waste of money for my regular Pioneer 525 DVD.
  9. Plastic wall inserts!! Geez thats scary! I wouldnt think that would hold, but if you have them mounted that way then who am I to argue..... I would find something more substantial if it were me though. The Idea of one of those things falling to a hard floor is depressing..
  10. Man am I glad!!!! If I had the room to set them up I would have bought them myself, but there's no way at the house were in now. I saw that ad and just had to tell someone! The price almost sounded too good to be true, and to be honest, not even broke in! That is too good !!!! Far out, glad to be of service. Now,LOL, I also know of a pawn shop in Olathe,KS that has alot of vintage MacIntosh......LOL (dunno about his prices)
  11. FYI If anyones interested, I saw a pair of 1985 Klipsch horns for sale in this weekends Kansas City Star newspaper and the asking price was 1500.00! Sounded too good to me. It stated they were consecutive serial numbers and "almost perfect" condition.
  12. But ya see, In my opinion, Klipsch planned ahead for a problem that isnt their fault! If they put a three prong plug on it, then you have a choice to cut off the ground leg or use a 3/2 adapter. However, if they just put on a regular 2 prong plug, it has to be one of the polarized type with the larger prong for the groung or neutral and internally connect the groung to the nuetral leg. If this were the case and you got a ground loop issue, you cant cut the ground out of the loop with out taking your sub apart to internally remove the ground....what a pain! so they did us a favor by wiring with a 3 pronger!
  13. Acouple of things...One, try setting them about 6" to 8" from the wall. That seems to work best for me, anyway. 2. you said that the unit doesnt have any kind of eq set up. I went to Yamaha's web site and read a bit about the reciever, and according to it, there is an eq setup, but you may have to use its on screen menu to see it, in other words use a cable to do it on your TV. Make sure they are set to large and that it knows your not using a sub, if your not. I had a Yamaha rxv 795 a while back and my rf 3's sounded very good with that receiver! Something tells me it is in the receiver setup and not an actual speaker prob.
  14. Ok, so the general preference I'm seeing is that a slow blow is best..
  15. If you mean feeling the deep bass that goes along with alot of movies, I doubt it. That's the job of a sub, and is directed to it thru the LFE channel or sub output. Of course you can set the reciever to no sub for now and it may help but there is a definate difference when the sub is in place. Between the rf7 and rf3, the 7's are gonna do a better job with bass simple due to bigger drivers and more efficiency. Yes they both have good bass in there own right, but neither were designed to reproduce subsonics. I'm sure you'll be happy with them, it's just that when you get the sub hooked up, it's like JEEZ!
  16. I got news for ya, that reciever will rock those 7's!! Seb's comment about efficiency is right on. With some of the dime store stereo's (bestbuy, circuit city) the high power amps are almost mandatory, but with Klipsch its not the case. Granted, if you went to a 150 watt unit you may hear a difference but not anywhere near what youd think. Trouble is, in order to match the sound quality of your Denon, youd need to go to a 5800 or something and man is that pricey! Worth it but pricey.....
  17. If saving some bucks isnt the issue then the 7's for sure!! More efficient and more 'ya know' just...more! They're the big brother and next generation to the rf3's, fuller sound. I have the 3's and love them but would gadly go to the 7's if I could. As efficient as they are, they wont overkill the room at lower levels and when the time comes to crank em, they'll go the extra mile. And just to throw in my .02, I'd elect for the Harmon/Kardon between those two, but have to admit being partial to the Denon line myself....

  19. You aint seen nothin yet!! If you want to get to the ultimates, go to http://www.madrigal.com/MLHP5.htm I've heard a fair amount of the Mark Levinson amps and oh my god!! The draw back is power requirements and size, read the specs on the #33 amps weight is over 400 pounds per channel! I know of one guy in western Olathe who has them and ended up getting local power company to wire a seperate leg from the pole to his house! The current produced and consumed at full power is goofy high. True reference quality, but at what cost? To me it's total overkill, but if ya got the bucks........
  20. The Police-Every Breath She takes is good on DTS, available at http://www.kencranes.com not much on reviews, but a good selection and real good prices on DTS stuff.! Now if only someone would talk them into redoing Pink Floyd in DTS......

  22. I dunno about that....Don't jump to conclusions before you've heard the RF7's!! I would give them a chance to break in 1st before automatically blowing them off! I've read a couple of REAL glowing reviews on them in this BB.
  23. As a practical joke, but also as a service to the store, order a bunch of Klipsch speakers as "a job well done " treat for all employee's , or maybe just for you, since your the employee of the year!!!! How about a new set of rf-7's?
  24. I have seen Promedia's at CompUSA but they were selling them for 300 dollars! I advised the guy about on the web site for 245.00 and doubted if what they ae doing is legal, but at any rate at that price they wont sell em to me!!!
  25. Also try Ken Cranes, or rather www.kencranes.com they have a pretty good selection of DTS recordings.
